Question about Everex StepNote LM7WZ Notebook

Open Question

We installed system mechanic professional version 9 to my computer, when I tried to install family tree maker 2010 to the computer, it said that it could not install due to files missing, so after trying to install it several more times, and getting the same message, I did a system restore, I had an earlier version of family tree maker on my computer that I had uninstalled so that I could install the newer version. Doing this I thought it would let me use the older version and not have the newer version on there. Well here is my problem, after figuring all of this out, I have decided that a full system restore, back to factory settings, is in order. What I need to know is, how do I do this. I don't have any recovery discs, because my computer was a hand me down from my father, and he has long since lost the discs. Is there anything that I can do?

I have a Vista (Windows) version of Family tree maker. I want to transfer my info from that version to a Mac version. Which versions will be compatible for the transfer??

There is a Family Tree Maker File Migration Utility that you run on the PC to convert either FTM 2010 or 2011 files to FTM for the Mac. Here's the link to the info on Ancestry.com:

MY OLD COMPUTER WINDOWS XPS RUNS FTM VERSION 10 FINE. MY NEW PC HAS WINDOWS 7 WILL NOT PERMIT INSTALLATION IS THERE A WAY TO INSTALL VERSION 10 ON WINDOWS 7?

The short answer is yes, Family Tree Maker 2010 is fully compatible with Windows 7.
The Family Tree Maker team has been working with Windows 7 for several months-even prior to the release of Family Tree Maker 2010. Since the "Release to Manufacture" (RTM) version of Windows 7 was released last August, we have done additional testing in our labs as well as with alpha and beta customers with no indication of incompatibility. Family Tree Maker 2008 and 2009 are also compatible with Windows 7.
As a point of interest, it may be helpful for people to know that we continually test Family Tree Maker with 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
If you find a problem while running Family Tree Maker on your operating system, the best course of action is to contact customer support which can usually help you identify and solve the problem.

What drivers do I need to make Family tree maker Compatible with Windows 7

Start the Windows "Program Compatibility Wizard".
Tell it that you want to install a Windows XP application from CD-ROM.
Windows 7 will create a "wrapper" around the software, to make it think that it is running under Windows XP.

How do I upgrade my family tree maker 6

The current version of Family Tree Maker is version 2010. It installs as a brand new version and ignores the old version. The old version can be uninstalled at any time.
Your version will not be automatically read by the new version. There are instructions to import your current files into the new program at this link.
There is a set of Frequently Asked Questions at this link that address the requirements to run the new version. You should read through them to make sure your system can run this program update.
