First you have to be sure that your Lan card is installed..
for that just take a look into the device manager ..to get there click right on the my computer icon ..than choose properties..and hardware ..and then device manager ..In the window for devices..take a look over the network area..and see if your card (LAN network adapter) ..is ok ..if it is in yellow with a ask sign on it ..you will need to install the driver for it again ..
If you have a motherboard drivers disk ..get it from there if you not ...contact the support site for Compaq and download it ..
here is the link ..
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3860108&
here is the link I already selected your model all you have to do is to select the operation system you use..and choose from the list the LAN adapter driver .;download it and run it to install..
at that moment you know for sure that you have a functional lan card on your computer ..
now connect teh cable to one of the router's ports..and open the lan card from the 2 monitors like icon in the tray sistem ..local area connection ...
click properties in the window..and in the list that appears..click on TCP/IP protocol ..
it will open a window that has 2 options ..one is to obtain an IP address automatically ...and second is to use the following Ip addresses..
In your case use the fist one ..and see if the router will assign the IP addresses necesary ..and will conect it ..if not ..you will have to configure it manually ..like it follows..
the ip address will be the routers Ip but the last digit you have to add the number of teh port ..for example if it is plugged into the number 2 port ..the router 's ..192.168.1.1 so that the port's IP will be ..192.168.1.3
the subnet mask will always be 255.255.255.0
and in this moment the default gateway will be the router itself..so put in the router's IP ..192.168.1.1
for the DNS servers let it take them automatically from the routers settings cause they will be the same ..(the ones you used to have from the provider and insert on the connection when you didnt used a router ,..
this is about all that you have to know to connect it ..
try first to obtain IP automatically ..cause this is the default way to do it ..

L cannot get internet when connected to my router, but l get internet when connected to modem directly.

Your ISP allows only one device to connect to their network.
When you change devices (router versus computer),
you need to power-off the ISP's modem, and unplug it.
Connect the router to the modem, and connect your computer to your router.
Plug the modem back in, and the modem will "forget" what device was previously connected.

I can not connect to the Internet. I have WiFi connection but can't do anything else

Plug your computer/laptop directly into router. Can you get to the Internet then?
If you CANNOT get to the internet when your computer is plugged into the router, reboot your router. If it doesn't have a power switch, unplug it. Leave it unplugged. Next, you need to figure out if you have another modem for DSL or Cable. If you do have another DSL or Cable modem, unplug that device to. After 5 minutes has elapsed for both devices being unpowered, plug in the DSL or Cable modem to the power source. Keep the router unplugged from power. After your DSL or Cable modem has powered up for 5 minutes, plug your router into the power source. Wait a few minutes. Reboot your computer/laptop. Try the wireless connection again.
If you CAN get to the internet when your computer is plugged into the router. Reboot your computer. Try to connect again. If you cannot connect after rebooting, make sure you are connecting to YOUR OWN wireless access point and not someone else's.
Do you have other computers/laptops/wifi devices that CAN/CANNOT connect to your wireless / access the Internet?

There is no internet connection to the laptop. The arris modem gives internet acess to the PC computer, though. The manual for the Airlink 101 router says to connect the router and MODEM to each other by a...

What you're missing is that ALL the PCs will be connecting THROUGH the router to the Modem. Unplug the PC network Cable from the modem, then plug a network cable from the router's INTERNET port into the modem (where you removed the PC's network cable). Now, plug the PC's network cable into one of the ports on the router (usually 4 or more, marked 1,2,3,4. Think of a Router as a "splitter". It connects to the Modem, then several devices connect to the Router, some of them by wire and some by Wi-Fi. So your desktop PC is connected by wire to the router and your laptop PC is probably connected by Wi-Fi (wire is an option, as well). The Router sorts out all those signals and communicates with the Modem. Sound reasonable?

How to connect xbox 360 to the internet with laptop

I'm not sure if you can connect an Xbox 360 to the internet with a lap top. What I would do, is get a router (guessing that you already have one). But if you don't, it's basically a splitter for Ethernet cords. You plug the router into the Modem (the box that makes the internet), buy an Ethernet cord, plug it from the router to your Xbox and you should have internet. Or, you can get a wireless router, and get a network adapter for your Xbox to get internet wireless. But I don't think you can just get internet from your laptop.

My wireless network connection status in connected speed is11.0 and my signal strength is good but I cannot connect to the internet

Are you running any Internet Security software such as Norton? Also make sure your wireless router is actually connected to the Internet, just because your laptop is connected to the router doesn't mean the router is connected to the internet.

If you can, plug your laptop in to the router via an ethernet cable to make sure Internet access is working, alternatively if you have another computer connected to the router check the internet access on that one.

Also try doing a soft reset on the router, just disconnect from the power for about 30 seconds, reconnect, wait one minute then try again.

My laptop wont connect to the internet...it connects to the router but then wont connect to the internet and its not the router or modem wont connect to a wired connection either

I would hook your laptop up directly to your broadband modem and bypass your router to rule it out. Plug the network cable from your modem into your laptop. Unplug the power on your broadband modem and plug it back in. Restart your laptop and see if you get on-line.

If you can...your router is the issue. If you cannot....I would check with your internet service provider before troubleshooting further.

I cannot access my wireless network. Router= WBR-2310 D-Link

The first thing to try is a power cylcle. Switch the router off for 2 minutes and then back on again. See whether the connection comes back up.

If this doesn't work, you will need to connect to the router with an ethernet cable and browse to its management interface through internet explorer to see what is going on.

To do this you will need to know the IP address of the router & the username / password to login..

you can get the IP address by using the following steps.

1. go to Start -> Run type cmd and go ok.
2. at the flashing prompt type ipconfig /all
3. You will get a bunch of information. You are looking for the set of numbers next to "default gateway"

Type this number in to internet explorer. eg. http://192.168.1.1

This will get you to the management interface of your router where you will be prompted for your username / password.

No internet connection through router D-Link DI-524

-Connect your router to the wall and connect your laptop to the router using a cable.
-Use Internet Explorer and type the following line in the address bar: http://192.168.0.1
-You should see a Username and Password Screen...type admin for the username and leave the password blank, unless of course you did give it a password.
-Next you should see the D-Link setup page with tabs across the top that say Home - Advanced-Tools-Status-Help
-Click on the WAN button on the left side of the screen
-Now you should see the WAN Settings Screen
-Click on "Dynamic IP Address" (You should not use PPPoE)
-Click on the Apply button at the bottom of the screen.
-Now close your browswer and restart your computer.
-You should now be able to access the Internet...through the router cable and wireless
-Let me know if you need more help with any of these steps.
-Good luck...and I hope this helps!!
