Question about Hunter 21871 56'' Ergonomic Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan

3 Answers

I purchased a display Model 21871 (Hunter Ergonomic) fan from Home depot. No instructions or diagrams. The unit has 6 wires, they are: Black w/Grey stripe, White, Grey, Pink, Red, yellow. The new remote that that they gave me is a Hampton Bay Model 191-691. In addition to the Black and White line voltage input wires, it also has 3 other wires. The black one is labeled "To Motor L" The white one is labeled "To motor N". The blue one is labeled "For light" Can you please tell or show me how to wire this up.

I have many more wires that the first solution supported

  • leotoi Aug 27, 2010

No one has addressed the fact that there are several more wires in the fan. Pink, red, yellew, grey etc. where do they go?

  • leotoi Aug 27, 2010

Your help was the best I received. After seeing the wire diagram, I concluded that the Hampton Bay receiver is not compatable with the Hunter Fan and lite. I will return both units to The Home Depot and purchase something other than the display. Thank you for your help.

Please follow these indtruction:
•1
Turn off power to in your breaker box. Test the switch to make sure it is off. Use your electrical tester if you're not sure.
•2
Bring wires down after the installation of the hanging bracket (see Resources below). Your hanging bracket should be installed with the wires hanging through the middle of it for easy access.
•3
Strip the ends about an inch.
•4
Twist the ends of your wires together and join them with a plastic nut. Connect your wires in one of two ways: To control the light fixture separately, connect the black and white wire leading from the fan to the wall switch. For no light wall switch control, bring the black and white wire together from the fan to the ceiling black wire. This is for instances where there is no wire for a light fixture.
•5
Take your ground wire and put it around your ground (green) screw. Tighten it in place.
•6
Place wires through the canopy.

The two black ones screw into your AC line voltage. The white wire is the ground as you know screw it into your ground wire. The extra white wire acts as a common ground it screws in with the naked shiny copper wire that is part of your AC line. If you have an older house you mite not have the naked shiny copper wire. If you dont just tie the extra white wire into the ground wire of you house. Then find the light fixture that attaches to your ceiling fan and connect the green to it look closely to the fixture you will see where it goes. If you have another wire coming from your light fixture tie it into the ground coming from your house

  • Willard Broughton Aug 27, 2010

You have to give us that information. We cant see your product often time we only see what it looks like you have to explain how many wires they are what color and what label they have on the them.

  • leotoi Aug 27, 2010

I thought it is pretty clear that there is 6 wires coming from thr fan and light and 3 more wires on the remote receiver as well as the normal black wire and white line voltage wire also on the remote receiver. A total of 11 wires to work with.

Hunter fan switch doesn't work

I had this same problem. Home Depot and Hunter did not help me. I called Ken's Electronics in Kalamazoo Michigan Phone (269) 345-4609
website http://www.kenselectronics.com/index.html. He was excellent and very knowledgeable. Got repair part for about $7.00 and received it within two days. Great. I was so frustrated because it looks like I was going to have to purchase and install a whole new fan. Started to wonder if Home Depot and Hunter did this on purpose. Call Ken and he can help with questions and installation too.

You have to get the correct receiver for that fan. There's no such thing as a universal remote,no matter what it says on the box. Call 1-888-830-1326 and you can order your correct part.

We purchased the Hunter Ceiling fan over a year ago and it has worked fine up until a couple of weeks ago. When we turn on the light it just continuously blinks on and off.

there is a watt governor, or black box for the lights to cut down on wattage or energy use. you can remove the black box for the lighting, and wire it directly to the main wires. white wire to white wire, and black wire to red wire. black and red are always a hot wire and white is a neutral wire. the part number on black box should be 98480-02. this should stop the lights from blinking. have a good day !

The canopy doesn't seeem to fit flush up against

You just need to wrap it and tuck it .. You might need to cut some of the fan wires shorter so there is not so much bulk under the canopy cover. The fans are shipped with enough wire leads to be able to use a down rod, They can be cut shorter when the fan is being installed.

To have a contractor in your area look at this unit, try using the contractor search on the home page of fixYa, or simply use the yellow pages for your area.

My guess is that the lighting burnt or damaged the motor windings in the fan. I am sure that replacing the motor would solve this issue. I do not know where to find one though. I hope this helps some.
