Question about Printers & Copiers
What you seem to want to do is not possible. Let me explain:
A file that has its data in the Adobe company Portable Document Format (or a pdf file) contains various objects that are described to the computer using a superset of the PostScript language, some of them can be images.
A file that comes from the scanner is first a very organized set of pixels and gets put into a more compact form by using a well known process as defined by the Joint Motion Picture Experts group. This is a roundabout way of saying that it has a format that isn't PDF.
What you CAN do:
a) open the jpeg file with a Macintosh, using the Print command from the file menu make a pdf file that has the image in it.
b) buy and install a PDF printer driver on a Windows machine, and then follow the same process as A above.
c) Use your favorite PDF creation program to make a file with the image embedded.

This issue might be caused by a compatibility issue between Apple's Security Update 2008-002 and Rogue Amoeba software. If you have installed one of Rogue Amouba's applications: Instant Hijack, Airfoil, Audio Hijack Pro or Nicecast, please see the information on Rogue Amoeba's web site regarding this issue.
If you do not have any of these applications installed, please contact Apple Computers for assistance.

SOURCE: My brother mfc 240c won't scan!
Do you have the full-featured software installed or did you use the OS's built-in driver? (Sometimes, the minimal driver only runs the printer.) Check here for drivers (just choose your OS): http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/dlf/download_top.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc240c_all
The most common issue for scanners is a communication error. Try a new USB cable, try a different USB port. If you have a USB hub or print server connected between the computer and the MFC, try a direct connection. Scanners require two-way communication and often fail even when the printer functions are fine.
Check if your scanner has a scanner transport lock and unlock it (only some models have this).
I hope this helps.

Use your paint program under accessories.
Start - accessories - paint - file - from scanner or camera - choose your device and follow the directions
