Question about Toshiba MK4026GAX (hdd2193) 40 GB Hard Drive
When i used once in my computer it was read as a USB but didnt show me the contents and second time i removed and inserted it wasnt read at all and a burning smell also coming how can i recover my stored data?
could you fix this problem
Your usb card or the usb connecting lead might have shorted out if you smelt something burning and it does ot work
click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seated
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,
if this fails to fix the problem
you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap
if you get your portable hard drive to work
click start click on computer to open you should see your drives C: and your other drives cd dvd and your usb drive E: or F: from there you select the files right click on the file/s right click copy navigate back to the drive right click select paste or hold the mouse cursor the file/s drag them to usb drive then drop them example on how to safe data/files to a usb drive
click start all programs accessories open windows explorer navigate to your data
right click on the data select copy navigate back to the usb drive right click select paste or select the data hold the mouse cursor then drag the data to your usb drive then drop it in
or if you are downloading data from the internet
once it starts downloading windows will ask whether you want to run or save it
a browse option will open you can save it into a folder in my documents or another device or a usb device
if you need more help with this post a reply
hope this helps you
