Could it be due to the humidy outside? Is that ever an issue. It is a brand new system just installed. It has been very humid out does that affect anything. Sometimes it will play for short time and freeze. If you push the stop button it will not do anything. Sometimes it comes up no DVD not loaded.

The freeze is not due to the player but the DVD, clean all the DVD's and buy a scratch repair kit from radio shack, that should lessen the problem, if u have never cleaned the Laser lens of the player do that as well as part of normal maintenance

this can be caused by a poor quality reader software, in other words a cheaper entry level price level unit, also the player may just be defective, all of the above as well

Need more information to really help you. Are you playing movies in the DVD/CD player of the laptop? Are you playing movies by streaming from Netflix or Amazon or Hulu or Xfinity? Are you playing movies from an external hard drive or flashdrive plugged into an older USB 2.0 port?
Your wi-fi connection may be too slow to stream without freezing. Your cpu/processor may be too old and slow to handle HD video. Your video/graphics chip built-in to the laptop may be old and not capable of handling HD quality video.

My recent recorded dvd's are freezing. Not the complete movie, sometimes I watched for a half hour and the rest of the movie starts freezing. Could this be the light scribe dvd super multi drive/CD...

Hi, The problem that you might be getting is with your DVD burner on the computer. Usually there is a time that a mechanical problem occurs especially when you're using it all the time. Have you tried the movies on other players just to check if the copy is good or not? If in case the movie also freezes on other players. It could be the DVD that is malfunctioning already. It may be a substandard DVD that is why it is already freezing up. IF is it ok. you might need to have the DVD burner checked for any mechanical issues like the motor that spins the DVD or the lens that reads the DVD.
Thank you for using Fixya, your recommendation is highly appreciated for the free support.

When I put a movie in it changes from DVD-RW Drive to CD drive by itself, and often freezes up and I have to shut down completely

It would help if you posted more information on your computer setup (Operating System, Video Card, CPU, RAM, etc.) This will help us to solve your problem.
Try reinstalling the drivers. If that doesn't work, right click "My Computer" and click "Manage", after that go to "Device Manager" and look for items with a "?" next to them.

Freezes halfway through the movie

Use a good dvd cleaner & clean the player. If this works then problem solved, if not then check the back of the dvd for deep scratches. those are the two common causes of the problem you describe. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

CD and dvd disc cleaners will not solve the problem, a deeper and delicate cleaning procedure by cleaning the lens manually with an cotton swab is needed...
Although the quality of newer discs is to be discussed.
