Question about Ruud Matching Split Air Conditioner

House has power but AC and thermostat seem to be off. Thermostat doesn't even show a temperature reading.

I would check the inside unit on the main board and make sure the fuse is not blown. Hope this helps Tim

What does -AC on honeywell chronotherm III thermostat mean?


AC means "air conditioning." If the AC icon is showing on your thermostat it means that your air conditioning is activated and should come on when the temperature threshold you've set on the thermostat is reached.

For example, if you've set the temperature level to 78 degrees, when the house temperature goes above 78, usually by about two degrees, the air conditioner should cycle on to cool it back down to 78 degrees at which point it will then turn off.

The difference between thermal fuse and thermostat


Thermal fuse is a heat-sensitive safety feature that shuts down system when overheating is detected.
In electrical wiring, the thermal fuse reacts to high temperature caused by too many amps on the electric circuit. When temperature exceeds the fuse amp rating, then the fuse trips and cuts power to electric circuit.
Example of thermal fuse is a household circuit breaker.
Gas water heaters have a different type of thermal fuse located in the combustion chamber or on the combustion chamber door, and also inside a copper probe inside water tank. Water heater thermal fuses will trip when water temperature exceeds fuse rating, or when heat inside the combustion chamber exceeds temperature rating of fuse. This action will cut off gas supply to water heater.
So a thermal fuse is a safety feature.

Thermostat is not a safety feature.
Thermostat is a measuring tool.
Thermostats measure temperature.
Example of thermostat is outdoor thermometer, or cooking thermometer, or Heat-AC control located on wall inside house.
Thermostats can give a simple temperature reading, or they can cause a separate control to turn on-off depending on application.
For example thermostat on Heat-AC will read room temperature, and when temperature exceeds setting, this triggers a switch that turns Heat-AC on-off.

Many appliances have both thermal safety fuse and thermostat.
Take for example a gas water heater. A copper tube extends into the water tank. Inside the copper tube are 2 things: A thermostat probe to measure water temperature, and a thermal fuse called an ECO for energy cut off. The ECO is a thermal fuse, and is a safety feature.

The thermostat reads temperature of water, and turns water heater on-off to keep water hot. A person can adjust water temperature by adjusting the thermostat dial on front of water heater.
However if the thermostat fails, or some other problem occurs, and water inside the tank gets hotter than 180 degrees, then the ECO or thermal fuse will trip. When the thermal fuse trips, this turns off gas to the water heater so water cannot get any hotter. The safety device prevents water heater explosion. The water heater must be repaired since this particular thermal fuse cannot be re-used afterwards, and must be replaced.

My dou therm thermostat thinks the room temperature is 85 to 90 deg..! I need to set the thermostat to that temp to get the heater to come on even though it's around 70deg. Same thing goes for the AC...


Either a new thermostat, or perhaps it's the location of where it's mounted. It may be right temperature in another area but sometimes thermostat is in a poor location for reading properly. Have you tried setting an alternate thermometer near thermostat to see how far off it is?

Ac unit ran for 4 hours and the temperature reading on thermostat stayed the same so it wasnt registering the temperature in house is it a faulty thermostat


Get a thermometer and check it against the thermostat

Honeywell CT3600-AC not working


could be froze up if it is turn it off to melt ice clean unit could be low on freon or bad blower motor

Robertshaw 9600: Temperature rises too high, fan doesn't stop.


It sounds like the thermostat is wired improperly. One quick was to check is by finding breaker to unit and shutting off power. Go to thermostat and remove from wall take all wires off thermostat besides wire going to R(might be RcandRh) and C(which is common) Tape all bare wires removed with electrical tape. Now go back to the breaker and turn power back on. Nothing should be running at all. Take a voltage meter and measure the voltage from R to W(which is heating). If you read 24V then the thermostat is open and not calling for heat. Now turn the thermostat up so it is calling for heat. You should read 0V from R to W. If this checks out your thermostat is probally fine. You can check the fan the same way by going from R to G. In auto you shoul read 24V from R to G and in th on postion you will read 0V from R to G. If the thermostat checks out then the problem is probably at the furnace or rooftop. Either with the thermostat wiring or the main board acting up

My central ac system occasionally runs too long and the temperature gets way too cold. The digital thermostat reads that the temperature is too high so the ac still runs. This doesn't happen all the time...


I have seen this is many digital thermostats. The worst problems usually come from the touchscreen thermostats. I would suggest installing a new thermostat. Make sure that you read the instructions before you even remove the old one.
