These amchines smoke a little, but if it is smoking a lot,.....either the gas/oil fuel mix has too much oil or the engine is badly worn. If it is the engine, power and acceleration will be lacking . Too much oil in the gas may eventually foul the plug...lest you mix up a batch at the proper ratio. 40:1 is good. 3.2 oz 2-Cycle oil to ONE gallon of gasoline. Always use fresh fuel in these small engines. If the mix is over 1 month old, dump it back into the can, pour it all into your car (won't hurt it) and make some new.

When i start mower it will rev up then down die or rev back up while blowing white smoke.last time i mowed 2 weeks ago it was fine?

The white smoke can indicate oil consumption. Was there a mixture in the gasoline? If not tthe piston rings may be affected. Also avoid gas-Ethanol mix which attracts humidity, turning into water.

My Craftsman 5.5 hp 14" rear tine tiller starts but doesn't run for long. It blows black smoke and quits. The gas is new and the oil is good.

Black smoke looks like it's burning too much oil. If it is a 2 stroke engine try a lower ratio of 2 stroke oil to gasoline mixture. Make sure you are using 2 stroke oil!
If it's a 4 stroke engine find out why and or how the oil is getting burned.

Gas/oil mixture for muculloch 400048-04

If you mix it 40 to 1 you won't go wrong. Better to see a little blue smoke than blow a motor. However, most of these use to have a 50 to 1 mixture. That's 50 parts gas and 1 part oil. Otherwords, 500ml to 5 gallons of gas.

I have a 1984 suzuki rm 125 it has always ran good for me. until recently it just putts and runs for maybe 20 secounds and then stalls. i tried to run start it and it kinda fired up but there was way more...

Are you mixing regular motor oil in the fuel? Doesn't this bike have a reservoir for 2-stroke oil? You must use 2-stroke oil in that reservoir. Buy it online if you can't find it locally.

Yardman intek 12A-979L401 runs with white smoke and stops, the ohv valve cover is full of a oil and gass mixture, the oil fill has the smell of gas in it

The carburetor has probably malfunctioned and the needle valve is staying open. It is responsible for most of your problems. Oil will HAVE to be changed, Don't run it till fixed. Pull carb, disassemble and clean noting condition of internal parts. Install rebuild kit if possible. The white smoke is a result of either water in the gas or gas in the oil....or a combination of both.

The motor smokes and oil blows into the carberator

if you changed the oil recently you need to use SAE30 and not 10w30. Causes pressure buildup.

17.5 h.p. b/s craftsman tractor oil pushes into carb. smokes bad!

Make sure it's not overfilled with oil.
if this is not the case, then you have excessive blowby, which is what blows past your rings when the air/fuel mixture ignites. there is only one explanation for this, faulty rings, and that's what it sounds like to me. the blowby forces the oil into the vent leading to the filter, and back into the cylinder, where it burns, creating blue smoke.
