Question about Samsung DLP HL-P5663W 56" TV

3 Answers

I've a Samsung DLP Model HLR-4266WX that has started to hum and is distorting the picture. I've replaced the cooling fan on the heat sink in the back and that didn't work. Is there another fan in the set that you can't see from the back?

Color wheel would be cause of hum noise and distorted picture on screen.
Please note that color wheel is not user level repair and requires expertise because it is located in light engine, the most sensitive and expensive part of dlp tv.
If you are good with electronics stuff fix then have service manual copy in hand to start inspecting color wheel.

I have the "42 version and just started noticing humming has gotten really loud since the TV was moved. I wondered if something could be wrong with a fan, but didn't have any clue as to what to ask...so, thanks!

Visual check is needed to identify the source of hum noise, if you have little experience about tv repair then take off lower back of tv and look around fans to determine that noise source.

The humming might be coming from your color wheel have you checked that?

I would suggest you check that because when they go out they can be quite expensive to repair. As for fans that i know of on this model you changed out what would be the correct fan, But i do not believe its the fan, Please check color wheel and report back with the details thanks.

please do be considerate and leave a rating for your free answer today.

50? Samsung DLP TV Model #HLR-5067W

Did you use an original replacement lamp or an aftermarket replacement? From the price you give, it sounds like an aftermarket lamp, which are notoriously buggy and the problem may be with the lamp. If not, the lamp driver is your next likely culprit. It is also called a lamp power supply or lamp ballast.
