How do I raise the top to access the lid switch to replace it

I also have a Roper washing machine, model number RAS8445KQO, and it will stop when the tub has filled and started washing but between the wash and rinse cycle it just stops.  It used to be that if I went and put all of my upper body weight on the lid, it would start back up but today even that stopped working.  I see from many google searches that the solution seems to be replaceing the lid switch.  How do I access that and replace it as I have never attempted anything even close to that.

How can I fix the lid of the washer comes down to close and it pushes down on a mechanism that allows the washer to drain and spin, that mechanism how can I fix it ? broke

If it is a top loader you will need to raise the top lid. There should be two spring catches in the front joint about 3 inches in from each side. The springs need to be pushed in to release the catch. with a screwdriver or perhaps table knife or with another thin blade tool. Once the lid is raised you should have access to the problem device. It's possible it has become bent or misaligned. or wire connection apart or badly corroded. Electrical connections need to be cleaned to bright metal. Otherwise, replace the broken device and or switch.

I can't get the cover off of my magic chef washer to change the lid assembly. It seems to be very different from the other instructional videos I've watched. thanks Brad

Hello Brad,
On that washer to access the lid switch the top come um from the catinet to replace the lid switch. To open and raise the top simply place a putty in the seam between the front of the top and cabinet about a 1/2 to 1 inch in from the corners and depress clips that hold top to cabinet then once they are depressed in lifr up the top

Won't start when cover closed

your lid safety switch is shot, you need to remove 2 side control panel covers that pop off, then remove 2 screws that are under here, then control panel will separate from top to let you unplug lid switch connection to the control panel, then open the top cover by popping clips inward on the 2 front corners with a putty knife or something flat like this between the top and front covers, then raise top up and lean back against the wall there you can access this switch to replace it,this switch is designed to shut off unit if lid is raised during spin cycle for your safety

LS error

The machine control detected that the lid switch is not functioning properly. Raise the top part of the washer to gain access to the lid switch.

Disconnect the machine from the power source. Gently pry the emblem from the front of the machine and remove the T20 torx screw hidden behind it. Slide the top of the washer forward and raise its front. Prop it up high enough to allow easy access to the lid switch.

The lid switch is activated by an actuator (part number 19119) mounted on a hinge. It will not work properly if the actuator is damaged.

Check the operation of the lid switch using a multimeter. Disconnect the lid switch wiring harness and connect the test leads of the multimeter (set to X1 or ohm) to the terminals of the lid switch and activate it. The multimeter should read zero ohms while the lid switch is activated and open when deactivated.

Replace the lid switch if it is broken or if it fails the test above. Remove the lid switch mounting screw and install the new lid switch. Reconnect the wiring harness and slide the top of the washer back into position. Reinstall the T20 torx screw and the emblem.

My Admiral washer will not spin.

Unplug the washer.
Insert a putty knife between the top lid and the front panel, where the top meets the front. About 2 inches in from each side are 2 clips that must be pressed inward to raise the lid.
Once the lid is raised, remove the 2 wires from the lid switch and jump them together with a small jumper wire.
Plug the washer in again and turn the dial to spin and turn it on.
If it spins, replace the lid switch.

Reads "OP" when lid is closed

Magnetic reed switch on left side below the gray rubber bumper, shown here...

http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?PartID=1033130&PPStack=1

Release two spring clips in front between main top and front panel using putty knife. Lift the main top and access the left and right door locks here.

To access and see if the magnet is in place, remove the dispenser from lid.
Gently pry the bottom of the plastic inner lid toward you then down. This will let you see if the magnet is in place on the right front corner of the inner lid.

Seems to be a common problem with this washer. Apparently, the lid isn’t completely watertight and allows water to get into this switch corroding the contacts and the wires.

Thanks for using FixYa - a Very Helpful rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.

Washer does not drain and spin without us slamming lid

It sounds like a defective lid switch. The switch is inside the washer main housing near the door/lid frame. You normally have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to access the switch. It can be tested for continuity using a multimeter or ohm meter to see if it is faulty. Hope this helped and best wishes.
