Depending on the location of the router, the home's construction and other variables - it is very likely that you will not be able to connect from every room. You could purchase an upgraded antenna that will increase your range - look for antennas that are compatible with your particular router.

You're being asked for a security / passphrase in some rooms because you're probably connecting to a neighbor's secured wireless router. Without the proper credentials, you won't get in.

You could install an Access Point, or other wireless device if the extended range antennas don't work well enough for you, to provide coverage where you want it. You might also try relocating the router to a location in the middle of the furthest points you want to get access.

To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_addressFor information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in thelaptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

1. did you first try to connect to the router via wire directly with it in the same room? then set up the wireless to work in the same room too.

2. once you've done that and it worked then move it to your bedroom. If it doesn't work there it could be that there is something inbetween the two rooms that is blocking the signal...ie a furnace can do that

3. if it won't work try relocating the router to another location. Try a different location in the same room first

but as i said , first get it set up and running in the same room so you know for sure it works.

I want to connect my iPhone 3G to my home wireless network using WRT54GS I have found the wireless security tab with the passphrase and Key 1. My iphone ask for a password. I have tried different...

The security type on the router is WEP.
In this case you will need to use the key 1. that will be the network key for your wireless network.
Check just next to the wireless security tab , you will see wireless MAC filter. It must be disabled. If it is Enabled then disable it and save the settings.
When you try to connect using the WEP key 1 , do you get any error message ?
If you get any error then try $ sign and wep key1.

Hello,
the passphrase is a security that is attached to the wireless router you are using, you can contact the person that configured the router to give you the passphrase or you can reset the router to factory setting by pressing the reset botton for 5seconds
