There is no signal coming out. Try inspecting the video card. You can always reset the BIOS of the motherboard by removing the small battery and replacing it.

I have a dell studio 540 desktop, I need to restore to factory settings but my monitor will not stay open. It opens for a few seconds then immediately goes into power saver mode and turns off, how can

I see two things here, but need clarification;

1) Monitor goes to Power Saver Mode, then turns -> OFF?

Sure that monitor didn't go into Standby Mode?

2) Why are you performing a restore back to factory settings?
Pick up a virus?

Primer;
The monitor receives a signal. A video signal. The video signal comes from the computer.

If the monitor is NOT receiving a video signal, then the monitor will state No Signal.
This is for older monitors.

New monitors do not state No Signal anymore.
It's Power Saver Mode, or Sleep Mode.

If the monitor is truly OFF, the Power On button will Not be lit up.
Or the Power On LED light on the monitor.

Monitor power on LED is lit, or Power On button is lit?

Monitor is not receiving a video signal;

Use a monitor cable from a KNOWN to be working monitor, for a temporary test.
OR,
Use a Known to be working monitor, and it's monitor cable.

Need to find out if monitor cable is good.

Monitor cable checks out good?

Then problem is computer.

The two leading issues with desktop computer failure, is;

1) Computer is dirty inside
2) Power Supply inside computer is bad.

Please post back in a Comment.

Monitor is switching off immediately after system is switched on. Again when monitor is switched on, images appear for about 3 seconds and again monitor switches off.pl give the solution.

You need to determine if you is turning off or going into standby mode. When your monitor shuts off, the power light will turn orange if it is in standby or the light will turn completely off if the monitor turns off. If your monitor goes to standby, that means that your monitor is losing signal which indicates a problem with your PC. #1 Make sure cable is firmly secured and both screws are tight #2 Check your video card make sure that it is firmly in its slot. Take it out and put it back in. *as long as your computer is open give it a good cleaning with compressed air* If those things check out it is possible that your video card has failed and needs to be replaced.
If your monitor is powering off #1Check plugins- try something else (i.e. lamp) in the outlet #2 Try your PC's power cord in your monitor

Does not receive signal. Power saving Mode appears and that it switches to standby,

have you tried turning it on in safe mode? The F8 key at the top of the keyboard should give you that mode. Once you turn the computer on, continuously press F8 until it switches to safe mode-then go into 'control panel' and check settings for your monitor.

My monitor gets switched off when i connect to cpu,the moment i disconnect it from cpu,its switches on automatically.what may be the problem?

One of two things:

1.) Your video card is 'stuck' in standby mode, which in turn sends a signal putting the monitor in low power 'standby' mode as well. When you disconnect it, the monitor returns to normal 'on' mode. Rebooting the PC should correct this issue.

2.) Your resolution or refresh rate are set outside the range supported by the monitor. When you connect the monitor, it starts receiving a signal that it can't display, so it simply turns off. You'll need to reboot the PC and press F8 quickly to bot into safe mode and correct the monitor settings.

My monitor says no signal

You'll need to check the cable connections and the computer that it is attached to. The monitor may be going into standby mode because the computer went into Suspended/Hibernate mode. Try restarting the computer. If you're unable to do this, try a hard power off and then try to turn it back on.
