Question about ViewSonic PJ550 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

Projector was working well, and went out when a friend was using it. I thought it would be the lamp, but got a new one and no dice. The power comes on and green, takes a while and finally sounds like it is firing up, but no light, then lamp and power light eventually come on solid red... seems like the lamp is not getting power.. who could fix it?

When this happens, the Ballast board is broken.
If you are a bit handy, you can get one used on Ebay, and replace the broken one.

SOURCE: LP130 projector - no light from lamp

To operate, the LP130 needs all of the following conditions:

1. Both Front & Rear Fans Operating
2. Front Cover Switch Engaged
3. Color Wheel Spinning
4. Bulb trigger voltage and ballast working properly
5. Good bulb with less than 2,000 hours on lamp counter

If the maximum lamp time of 2,000 hours is exceeded, the lamp will not light. The lamp must be replaced and the lamp timer reset before the projector will operate.

To reset the lamp hour counter, press and
hold the reset button, then press the menu/select button (while
still holding down the reset button) for 10 seconds.

When you replace the lamp you have to reset the hours menu on the lamp. It is found in the menu under settings.

HI,

Make sure the lamp cover is in place as it has a plunger on it which closes a switch . If the switch is open you will never power on. With the cover remover you can manually activate the switch too and it will power up.

For more troubleshooting steps you can see the user manual from HERE

Goodluck,

New lamp turns on flashes 7 times

Just a thought...you *might* have a bad ballast in addition to that defective power supply. That flashing could be the ballast trying to ignite the lamp. A lamp is just like an enclosed welder's arc. The ballast generates a high-voltage spark to initially start the lamp, then low voltage with high current keeps it burning. If you look into the lens and see "lightning" flashes but no lamp ignition, that's what's happening. The ballast could've been damaged by the defective supply. Also, try a known-good lamp...just to rule out a defective new one--in the shop, we kept all old working lamps as testers.

With a bit of luck a fuse may have blown though almost certainly the lamp has gone. Never **** the projector when the lamp is on.

Optoma EP721 Projector Lamp will not come on

I had the same problem I thought the lamp was Broken orburned out.
I removed the lamp tried  to look at it and see if I could tell if it was burned out or not. Put it back in and it worked.
Oh I forgot! Originally I had loaned it to a friend and it came back broken. The foot at the bottom was broken so I assumed, that it was probably dropped or fell off the table.
So First I bought a second projector because the bulbs were so expensive. Then I did not try to check the bulb for a couple of month's It only had 70 hours on it Anyway Give it a shot. Worked for me
