LD message - How do you disconnect hoses to look for clogs?

So, I got the bottom panel off of my machine - and was able to take the clamps off of the pump (I think that's what it is - has a black and a yellow hose leading to it-? ) - and it looks clean.  I would like to check the hoses but don't know how to unclamp them - they are held in place with these wire contraptions.   And above the hoses (my machine is on its front) is a tranluscent plastic chamber-kind of thing - I can see that that is dirty in there - how do you access that?
Thanks for any help!

My Maytag Bravos quiet series 300 washing machine stopped. Won't drain. A message Ld shows. Not sure what to do

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
My response is very long and will be in 2 parts this is PART 1

Here is what the service manual says about Ld:

"Ld" (Washer is taking too long to drain

water from the wash tub)

Check the following:

Is the drain hose kinked or clogged?

Is the drain hose installed properly? See

"Connect the Drain Hose," page 2-5. Press
PAUSE/CANCEL to clear display
Also:

Is the drain hose clogged, or the end of

the drain hose more than 96? (244 cm)

above the floor?
See "Drain System," page 2-3.
6. To remove the drain pump: (there are 2 pumps... the drain pump is on the left)

a) Loosen the clamps and pull the inlet

and outlet drain hoses off the pump.

Note that there is a tab on the outlet

connector that fits into a slot in the

hose.

b) Remove the three 5/16? hex-head

screws from the drain pump and remove
the pump from the tub.
Check the pump inlet and the tub outlet for obstructions.
Pump electrical winding resistance test:

-Disconnect the wire connector from the

drain pump terminals.

- Set the ohmmeter to the R x 1 scale.

- Touch the ohmmeter test leads to each

of the drain pump terminals. The meter
should indicate between 10.5 and 14 ?.

----Due to the design of the machine the 2 wires going to the drain pump have be notorous for backing out of the plastic connector. Check the connector of the pump for loose terminal connections. --

From the Ld troubleshooting steps / procedure:

Long Drain

Ld flashes when the water level does not change after the drain pump is on.

• Is the drain hose or the drain pump clogged?

• Is the drain hose height greater than 96? ?

• Is the pressure hose connection from the tub to the machine/motor control pinched or plugged?
• Is the pump running? If not, see TEST #7.

TEST 7

TEST #7 Drain/Recirculation

Perform the following checks if washer fails to drain or recirculate.

1. See Activation of Manual Diagnostic Test

Mode, and perform the Manual: Pumps

test.

2. Remove the console to access the machine/

motor control assembly. See Accessing

& Removing the Electronic Assemblies.

3. Visually check that the P4 connector is

inserted all the way into the machine/motor

control.

If visual check passes, go to step 4.

If visual check fails, reconnect P4 and

repeat step 1.

4. Remove connector P4 from the machine/ motor control and check resistance values of pump motor windings. Resistance values should match those shown in wiring diagram, page 7-1.

If resistance values are good, go to step 7.

If winding measurements are much higher (tens of ohms to infinity) than shown in wiring diagram, a problem

exists in the motor winding or in the connection between the machine/motor

control and the motor. Go to step 5.

5. Tilt machine forward to access the bottom

of the machine and the pumps. See
Figure 1, page 6-13.
6. Check the resistance at the pump motor. Remove the connector at the motor and

take measurements across pump terminals. Measurements should be as shown in the wiring diagram.

If winding measurements are much higher (tens of ohms to infinity) than shown in wiring diagram, replace the

pump motor.

If the resistance at the pump motor is correct, there is an open circuit in the wiring between the motor and the machine/

motor control. Repair or replace the lower wiring harness.

If the pump motor windings and machine/ motor control check OK, repair or replace the pump. Be sure to check

the pump and tub sump for foreign objects before replacing pump.

7. See Activation of Manual Diagnostic Test Mode, and perform the Manual: Pumps test.

8. If the Manual: Pumps test failed, then the machine/motor control has failed:

Unplug the washer or disconnect power.Replace the machine/motor control assembly.
Perform the Manual: Pump test.

Ld code wont turn on

Well the generic answer for an LD code is Long Drain, chances are the Pump is clogged. if this is a Calypso, it can be fixed by tipping the unit back and unscrewing the three 5/16 screws in the bottom/front of the bottom panel. this will give yuou access to the pump. its on the right. there are 2 styles of pump, the older style is a large plastic piece that has 2 clips holding it on. this is next to impossible to clean out. if its lint of loose fabric that has gotten in, you wont be able to remove it. if its a sock, thats a lot easier. you will need a new pump if you cant clean it out. if its the newer style pump, these are made to be able to clean them easily. 4 torx head screws to remove the pump chamber housing, de-lint it and button it back up. on both pumps your going to have to deal with a lot of water ejecting. if you have hose clamps use those and put down lots of towels or a strategicly placed bucket. leaning the tub back as far as possible can help to, but not all the way, it could spill out the top of the tub then. best thing to do is to bring it outside where a spill doesnt matter. good luck.

How do I correct the Ld from flashing

"Ld" Is for long drain, its taking longer than 5 minutes for your machine to drain. There might be a clog in the drain line.

Calypso washer gives error code Ld or ob. won't finish load or drain

Ld=Long drain. If it takes longer than five minutes to drain the water the operating pressure switch resets. Most common problem associated with this code is a clogged or failing water pump and hoses.

ob=Off balance. Open the lid and redistribute the clothes evenly around the tub, close lid and press the start button.

Kenmore Elite Calypso wont drain

Oh the dreaded calypso pump...Seen that one a million times. Pumps get clogged pretty easily. Try to get the water out manually first. Than push the washer back and lean it against the wall so that you can access the bottom. Remove the 3 screws. Bottom panel should come off. The pump is on the right, its black. Get ready with a shop vac or alot of towels, theres gonna be a flood. There are 2 clamps on black hoses that need to be taken off so that you can slide the hoses off the pump. Next remove the 3 bolts that hold the pump in place. Next lower the pump out of the hole it sits in. Youll have to follow the wiring harness up and disconnect it. Now you can try and clen out the pump or replace it. Part # is 285990. Costs about 75.00. Hope that helps. Let me know if yiu need more help. Dave www.washermd.com

Wont drain says Ld

I was having the same issues, I replaced the motor/pump, cost about $145.00 and replaced it myself, A repairman will charge up to an extra $100.00 for an hour of work. I ran a load of towels and it ran great and sounded quite. Woohoo im the hero, not!! the very next load the error "LD" came back at the 7 min remaining mark. so i pulled out all the wet clothes and ran a quick wash and watched the progress, the washer was draining but again at the 7 minute mark, it seemed the washer was struggling and not spinning. At this point im thinking i have to replace the spin motor and belts. But i kept getting the "LD" code which does'nt add up. So i crawled behind the washing machine again, took the back off, this time i disconnected the Long drain. I found the best way to get rid of the water in the tank is to unhook the long drain from the back of the frame, there are two(2) white clips on the inside and one(1) black "C" clip on the hose on the back where hose comes out. I used our carpet cleaner, lowered the hose till water started coming out and poured water straight into the hose for the cleaner. Im sure a shop vac will work as well. If you don't have a cleaner or shop vac, just use a large cup you'll get most of the water out, keep a towel handy for some clean-up. After the water level was below hose level in tank, i took the hose off, (you'll need pliers to squeeze the clamp from hose). There it was, my problem, not one(1) but two(2) bra wires stuck in the drain port, causing the float valve ball to be jammed and sending the message to the machine brain to shut down due to a blockage at the drain. Duh hench the code "LD". Somehow the bra wires made there way over the wash plate through the quarter size holes on bottom of wash basin and thorough the tank to the drain port. After reassembling the drain hose and washing machine, my wife has completed several loads of laundry and im on the hero status again. I sure hope this fix will help you get on the hero status and save you $145.00 or more.

LD CODE BUT NOT PUMP

CHECK THE AREA MOULDED INTO THE OUTER TUB AT THE
BOTTOM BACK WHERE THE HOSES ATTACH TO THE TUB.
A FAVORITE PLACE FOR OBJECTS TO GET CAUGHT. IF O.K., CHECK THE ELECTRICAL WIRING FROM THE PUMP
MOTOR TO THE CONTROL BOARD. THERE IS A CONNECTOR BEHIND THE FRONT PANEL AT THE BASE. MAKE SURE THE PINS IN THE CONNECTOR ARE NOT CORRODED.
IF ALL IS O.K., REPLACE THE CONTROLLER FOR THE PUMP
MOTOR.

Whirlpool Calypso Washer--LD message

The LD message stands for "Long Drain".  Two possibilities could be causing this problem.  The pump could be bad, or you could have a clog in the sump.  Pull the unit out, tilt it back, and remove the bottom panel.  You need to find out if its draining at all, or none at all.  If its just a trickle, you probably have a clogged drain sump.  Bra underwires have a habit of collecting in that sump, then lint and everything else grabs on to it, and bingo, you have a clog.  Problem is, to clear the sump, you pretty much have to strip the unit down to the tub.  Not a very easy job, and usually need a special spanner wrench to remove the nut on top of the u-joint.  Let me know how it turns out, and if you need further information.  Be sure to check your drain hose for kinks or clogs as well.  Good Luck!!!!!    Jim

Code LD

Here we go the problem probably lies in the holding tank tub. So far found one baby sock, clumps of lint, latest underwire from daughters bra. Easy to work on machine. Will need a 2nd person for 1st part of repair. Have a small bucket ready,(I used a empty kitty litter container) 1)Disconnect electric cord, 2)Disconnect water hose's to machine. pull out drain.3)(Will need a 5/16th socket.) Pull out washer remove back panel.(2 screws) 4) Tilt back washer (towards control panel) 5) Remove bottom access panel (3 screws). 6) With a pair of plyers pull back metal clip on hose leading to pump. (this is where all water left in washer will come out.) 7) Remove clip on return hose from pump. 8) Pump is held on by 2 clips, push them back to remove pump. Once a water is drained you should be able to see any objects in the tub area, you can also now place the washer on it's side.WATER MAY STILL COME OUT HAVE A TOWEL OR 2 READY. Check pump for damage. Remove any/all debris (Used a set of hemostats.)(Rubber balls are suppost to be in there.DON'T DAMAGE THEM.) Once everything looks to be removed. Reverse steps reattach hoses, pump, etc. before replacing access panels Use the Express Wash Option to see if all works well. If it does, reattach access panels, and start washing!!
