IPod 5th gen water damage

My daughter left her iPod in the car with the sunroof open in the rain several months ago. She said it was dead and would not turn on. I got it from her today and put it in a charger for an hour then did the reset sequence a few times. I got no light but the apple logo on the 3rd or 4th try then got the backlight flickering and heard some sputtering noises from the unit. Now it is back to being totally dead. Please offer some suggestions. Also, I have not found anything giving me instructions for opening the unit so I can make sure there is no water left in it.

i was pushed in the swimming pool with my clothes on and my ipod in my pocket, i realized it was in there as soon as i was pushed so i got out strait away, the ipod was in a hard clear case and it didnt look like it was completely wet i took the case of, dried it with a towel then tried to turn it on... but it was completely dead! i then tried drying it with blow dryers etc. but it was still dead so i left it in my cuboard for about 2 months and today i found it and tried to turn it on and it was still dead so i put it in my ipod dock and the screen flickered with light then the apple symbol appeared with the backlight and thats how it stayed. can u please help?? and is it possible to open an ipod shuffle (the new version)

Have an ipod nano 5th gen, will not switch on, will not reset.

Hello :

First thing I would do is checking the charger and then the power cord . If they both are OK , then I would replace the battery , because It seems to be dead [ can't be recharged anymore ] .

good luck .

I want to know which generation is the Ipod 30G model A1136, thanks

There are two 5th gen iPods, A1136 model is the older 2005 model, not the later 2006 model.

Here is Apples link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#ipodfifth2 which will show the differences, but not by model number. The reason I know this model number is the first 5th gen 2005 is because I have one. Also older 2005 should have '2005' engraved on rear.

IPod Battery

You should try using a different USB cable and connecting to a different USB port and seeing if the problem persists. If it does, the problem's probably with the iPod's logic board.

Ipod video 5th gen issue with downloading music

You should try using a different USB cable as it's very possible the cable is damaged. If that's not the problem, the logic board is probably defective and you can either replace it if you're comfortable enough opening your iPod or sell the iPod listing the defects on eBay.

IPod 5th gen water damage

Once it's been wet inside you are pretty much out of luck. iPods are mini computers. If any of the circuitry inside got wet then the connections will start to corrode and it will be junk. You should not try to open it unless you know what you are doing because you can damage the connectors.
Your best bet is to sell it on E-Bay as broken/for parts or repair and state that it has been wet. Someone will buy it for the parts and you can use whatever money you get to buy a new one.
Sorry to have to tell you the bad news.......
