Outlook Express had trouble opening and had to shut down. When it did open next time, my complete inbox history was gone. Vanished. The current emails came in but all prior emails are gone. All other folders are still intact with even over 200 emails in a folder. All Sent emails are in their folder. Only the inbox folder was affected. Any idea what happened or how to retrieve it? Thank you.

Hi,
firstly, You should check deleted items folder for availability of emails. If you find the emails are in deleted items folder then just right click on emails and select restore to get that email in inbox folder. You can select multiple emails also to restore.

If you still unable to find the emails then you have to go for any third party tool like SysTools Outlook Express Restore.

Hi kkrevalis ,

  • You can try using OE-Mail Recovery It's easier recover messages from broken dbx files (the files used by Outlook Express to store mail). OE-Mail Recovery (www.oemailrecovery.com)

  • Also Check with ScanDBX (www.scandbx.com) It recovers broken dbx files and also scans for other outlook problems.

Then check the option if you have done Restore defaults, then uncheck it.

SOURCE: Email stuck in outbox

Just fixed this problem for my father who was sending many, many copies and starting to lose friends. I started going through all the solutions found here and whilst searching for the .DBX files, found that his sent items file had grown to the 2Gb file size limit. I tried deleting items from his Sent Items file, but it couldn't even do that. After confirming he didn't really need anything in his sent items we deleted the Sent Items.DBX file and restarted Outlook Express. Everything now works correctly. Check your file sizes!

My emails have gone from inbox to trash and then deleted themselves

1. Export all your old mail history
  1. Open Outlook (not Outlook.com) and click the File tab and select Open & Export.
  2. Click the Import/Export button and select Export to a file.
  3. Select Outlook Data File (.pst)
  4. Select the mail account (not just the Inbox) usually at the top and indented to the left of the Inbox column.
