Restore recovery disk

Hi Billy,
depends on what you mean by restore. Assuming you have windows installed, you can make a back-up by going to START > Control Panel > System and Security > Create a backup

(the path above may be a bit off from the wording, the PC I am on at the moment is not an english version.)

Then on the left side there is a link to create a recovery disk or create a backup. the recovery disk option only makes a bootable disk to start your computer if your windows cannot start. This only gives you an enviroment where you can try to fix windows or to restore a backup that you created beforehand with the second option above.

If you create a backup, there are two things to keep in mind... what type of data do you want to back up and how often. You can put check marks on all data that you want to backup (Note: the more data you backup the larger your backup file will be). If you plan on restoring a corrupt windows with the backup you should include "System State".

Restoring from a backup file a.k.a. backup image will ONLY give you back the files that were on your computer at the time you made the backup... that means everything that you created after you made the backup will be lost.

Hope that helps.

Recover data from my backup

Which operating system and what data do you need to recover ???
You can create a backup disk with Microsoft Windows 7 or any other version of the operating system.
This disk will contain the files, programs and settings that you chose to save during the backup operation.
Yet, this disk does little good for you if you do not know how to retrieve that backup data.
Luckily, Microsoft offers a simple process for restoring this data to your operating system.
Even a basic computer user should have no problem restoring her backed up data from a backup disk.

Insert your Windows 7 installation DVD into your optical drive.
Reboot your computer and press a key to boot from the disk once prompted.
Click "Repair your computer."
Choose the hard drive that contains your copy of Windows 7.

Click "Windows complete PC restore."
The latest backup data will be selected by default. I
n the event you wish to restore earlier backup data, press "restore from a different backup."
Click "Next."
Your computer will now restore the backup data into Microsoft Windows 7.

I will reformat my pc and i want to create backup first how do i do it

There are several waye to take backup of your whole machine.

1. windows backup utility
2. Manual Backup
3. third party software, like Symentec backup, acronis true image (will backup whole image of your pc)

if you dont have third party software then i recommend u take either manually or windows backup utility, but i do my self and prefer manual backup.

Manual Backup:

1. copy your user profile, which will include your desktop, documents, music, favorates, outlook (pst files), contacts, pictures, download, and shorcuts or link.
2. copy your data from other partition if you have like D: drive or so .

3. put the data in external hardisk, dvd, cd or any backup device .

Well, you need a backup tool and littile bit knowledge of operating system. you can take a drive backup with some backup tool e.g Paragon Drivebacup utility. With this you can backup any OS to an image and if requires, you can restore for it using this utility. Well, an startup disck that run the utility is required. To backup an os you can't use the os to backup self.

How do I start making my Maxtor start backing yp

Do you want to create a backup file or do you want to keep your original files saved on your Maxtor? If you want to create a backup file for the files on your computer, type "ntbackup" in the "Run", the backup wizard will automatically start and click "next" > "backup fies and settings" > "Let me choose what to backup" and then select the files and folders you want to backup by click the snap-ins (+ signs) and check mark the files or folders and again "next". In the option "choose a place to save your backup" click "browse" (if you are prompted that the drive A:\ is empty click "cancel") locate your Maxtor directory, click "Ok" and name the backup file something you like, click "next", the backup process will begin with the status monitor. It may take several minutes depending on the files you've selected. That's all. If you wanna restore the backup files, just double click the backup file you've saved and when the wizard opens, select "restore files and settings" and follow the onscreen instructions.
Good luck.
Thanks for using FixYa.
