Question about Samsung LN46A550 LCD TV

2 Answers

Hi A couple of weeks ago, the image on my Samsung LN46A550, started to become saturated with green. The image and sound is fine, except that everything on the screen, including the TV menus, which now have a greenish hue. Sometimes the image goes back to normal, but then after awhile it goes back to being green. I've read about people having similar problems, and switching the HDMI cables to Component, which I did for my PS3 and scientific american cable box, but I still have the same issue. I've also heard that it may be a power supply issue, would replacing the capacitors help, or is that only for TV's that have issues turning on. Is there a way to fix this issue? The TV is already passed its warranty date. Thank you

They call that problem pixelation and the test I did was replacement of the tuner board and the video data board with no improvement or solved problem. And the only solution was I bought a new a flat wire connecting the tuner board and video data board, cleaned the terminals of both boards. And sure enough problem solved.

It will be good to have a ccheck within and see if there is any visible indications of failure. check if power capacitors have bulged out if so replacce.
But I thnk the possible fault can be soldering faults/problems in the drive/converrgence circuits.
Dry soldering is the greatest enemy and I think that the parts exposed to heat / cool in due course of time have the drying of the solder.
So use a good iron carefuly not to bridge circuits but to solder suspeccted joints. IC pins and connector joints. use good quality solder with good lighting .
comment and credit if this advice helps.

Hi, I checked the capacitors and they were fine. I replaced them anyway, only because I've heard of so many people having issues with them. I didn't notice any dry soldering on the boards. After I reconnected the boards to the tv, there was some improvement, but then the 'green snow' (as I've seen people refer to this problem) come back - not as much as before, but then, after awhile, come back a lot like it was before. Do you think I should replace the board? if so, which one would be causing the "green snow" - the board with the power capacitors, or the board with the inputs? Thank you

I would not advice on a board replacement unless we have confirmed on the section fully. The possibility is the output board, the board with the power capacitors.
If there was improvement try again to replace the suspects. It might work out much cheaper.

Replace the flat wire connecting the tuner and the video data boards. Of course clean the terminals(don't brush it)with electronic circuit cleaner spray.

Apparently this is a known problem with flat panel TVs made a few years ago due to bad capacitors in the power supply. This same problem appeared in computer mother boards at about the same time so that the capacitors went open or shorted causing problems. There is videos on You Tube that addresses this problem see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZccykxrtX9g as a starting point and look around for other repairs

Most likely the main mother board of the TV is the problem. The main board controls everything inside the TV from audio to video and TV program software. There maybe loose connection to the main board or the board is starting to go bad.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you might have a backlight issue with this TV set. It could also be due to the inverter circuits for the backlights. The inverter is the power supply source for the backlights. There could also be a screen driver problem; if it is then you have to change the entire board. All this is only recommended if you have some kind of expertise for checking the internal circuitry of the TV as these units have high voltages running even when the set is switched off. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

You all say that the toner cartridge is okay, so it could be the hole OPC Image Drum or the ITB which is the tranfer Belt.
