Unplug the set from power.

Best way to do this is with back cover removed look for the three large black lens--they are the light source for your picture. This is a 10 minute job---do not touch anything else inside even if set is unplugged.

Clean with either a lens cloth or a paper towel with glass cleaner sprayed on it, This should be done once a year---if moderate or heavy dust, picture will be darker and duller looking.

The set has a mirror but that is more difficult to get at and it hangs at a angle so dust does not get on it.

Let me know if you have questions and if this information told you something you did not know, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

HOW TO CLEAN MY REAR PROJECTION

There are two ways: the hard and the easy way.

The easy way is with the back removed you should be able to see and reach the three lens with a lens cloth or a paper towel with glass cleaner sprayed on it.

The mirror rarely needs cleaning unless someone smokes in the house or you live in a very dusty environment.

If you have a small mirror with the back off you should be able to use it to see if the mirror is dusty; it rarely is as it hangs at a angle and dust rarely gets on it.

If you had a issue with cob webs or something on the inside of the screen the only way to deal with that is the Hard way: removal of the entire front screen assembly which is secured by screws at the bottom of it behind the front speaker grill.

This would allow you to clean the mirror, lens, and any webs or dirt on the inside of the screen.

Special care has to be taken here as once the screws are removed the screen pops out and usually requires some real care and skill to do. It is not worth damaging the screen just to look inside.

Let me know your thoughts and if you have questions I will attempt to assist you.

I am having a halo effect with the screen. Have hit the magic focus button and it is not correcting itself. Someone has told me to take the back off and dust the inside of the TV

If the magic focus isnt correcting the issue the convergence Ics have most likely failed. You can get the convergence repair kit for your model at www.tvrepairworld.com the kit contains the Ics associated resistors and the CD with repair instructions.

There is one mirror inside. It is easy to remove the front plastic screen by removing the bottom fabric grill (snaps off by pulling outward like a removable speaker grill). Remove several wood screws along bottom edge of screen. Lift up the whole plastic screen frame and pull it away from the TV; but be careful with the control wires that go to the center panel, which snaps off the big screen frame easily. The mirror is right there.

Not sure, but looks like blue and red shadows around words on the screen

Al, bring up your convergence grid (look in menu for it) and I think you`ll find that the set is out of convergence, if you can adjust the red up & down and the blue up & down your ok, if they won`t move in one or both directions the convergence IC`s will have to be changed out, hope this helps, BMW Rider

Maintanence question obout my Sony rear projection.

i,m not a tech but i,ve been told by a techinican that those tubes do have fluid and it,s not an easy fix to change the fluid i was told the tube has to be removed and a tech told me it would run around 200.00 by the time the tech removes it puts the fluid back in and reinstalls it and after it,s reinstalled the convergance has to be reset that,s what realigns the colors back to their correct position and i,ve heard this isn,t an easy job so i,d probably get a techinican to fix it but that,s up to you someone might have an easier opinion but the tech i talked to is one of the best thanks and maybe you can help me i have a blue tube on my big screen tv that wont light upcould you give me some insite as to what you know about a projection light that you said that may need changed think that may be my problem your welcomed to call me about this at 270-566-4327 anytime soon as possible thanks
