Question about Computers & Internet

3 Answers

I was working with Krishmanvan on my problem but I went out of town for 2 weeks and I think the problem was closed. The advice that I received didn't work. My problem is that I have an Inspiron PC and I am unable to upload files or photos to any website or email. Occassionally I can upload a small photo but that seems to be random. The PC connects to the internet through a wireless modem in my home and then to Comcast DSL. I also have a netbook that uses the same wireless modem and Comcast connection and I can load photos from the netbook ok. I followed krishmanvan's advice and deleted all my temp files, all prefetch files and reset IE 8 to default settings, rebooted my PC but still can't upload any photos or files to the internet or email. Please help!!

I disabled Norton security and firewall and I was able to upload a few small photos to Facebook, but it took a long time - much longer than it should (e.g. 10 min ). I uninstalled Norton but still couldn't upload photos quickly to email or websites. I am using IE v8. Is there a setting I can check or reset in IE? I'd rather change the setting rather than download Mozila.

Thanks Silverdragon. I tried what you said and had interesting results. First I downloaded GoogleChrome and I was able to upload several large photos to Facebook (something I couldn't do with IE). But, I have an officelive.com website and I tried to upload photos to that website but MS told me that officelive doesn't support GoogleChrome so I couldn't even open my website to edit it, but MS does support FireFox and officelive. So I installed FireFox and I can open my officelive website to edit it BUT I still can't upload any files or photos. When I try to upload a photo I just get the message "uploading file 1..." for at least 10 minutes but nothing happens. In the past I have spoken to MS about this problem and they blamed Norton. I called Norton and we uninstalled their security software but I still couldn't upload any photos to my officelive website, needless to say Norton blamed MS.
I can upload the same large photos from the netbook which uses the same wireless router and comcast internet connection that my PC uses.
    What do I try next?????

I installed both Firefox and Googlechrome on my PC but continue to have the same problem. The first time I tried to upload photos (1 - 3 mg) with Googlechrome it worked fine - I could upload 3 or 4 photos at one time within a few seconds. Then I tried to upload photos with Firefox and it failed. So I went back to GoogleChrome to upload photos and it also failed so I'm back where I started.
Note - I can upload the same photos from my netbook using Windows XP and IE without any problems using the same wireless router and comcast DSL connection that I use for my PC.

Could it have something to do with my cache not clearing??? OR sometimes it seems like the upload fails because there isn't a proper handshake between my PC and the internet connection. For example when I try to upload a photo in email or on my officelive website I get a message "uploading 1 file..." but that messages is displayed for at least 10 minutes and then nothing happens or sometimes I get a message that says something like "internet connection has been lost", but I haven't lost my internet connection as I'm still connected on other open IE pages.
I hope some of this additional information helps - I'm really getting annoyed with this issue!!! But I extremely appreciate your help - thankyou!!!

I've done the steps you've described (your comment dated 9/2) but it doesn't solve my problem. I've never had a problem with my mouse freezing and everything else that I do on the internet, except uploading pictures or files, works quickly and appropriately. I use Norton Antivirus and firewall all the time so I don't think I have a virus. I've had this file upload problem since I bought this new PC last January.

Hello. would help if you can provide details on what exactly happens when you try to upload photos or files like if you get any error code and approximately, how large are the files? You may also want to check if the same thing happens when you upload via ethernet connection (wired) instead of wireless.

if it works better on wired connection, try to update the wireless network driver, verify if Windows manages the wireless connection, disable security softwares, and test the connection in Safe Mode with networking.

Hi, well I don't think it has anything to do with Temp, Prefetch, nor IE8, specifically.
You say that you cannot Upload any Files or Photos to any website or email.
I would think it is more a function of Ports NOT being open. You should ensure that your Browser has permission to send stuff from your PC, specifically your Firewall, and Or Antivirus software.
Also download a couple of "Other " browsers such as, Google Chrome, and Firefox, One should always have more than one browser available anyway for occasions just like this. Often it can be a setting or problem with the browser, so to confirm or deny that fact, we MUST use another Browser and see if the fault remains DO NOT set as Default, DO NOT import any settings.
Also check you Router, Check all the Internet Settings in the router in case they have reset to default. There is a option called TCP MTU (details) (Maximum Transmission Unit) of a single data unit (e.g., a frame). MTU sizes are measured in bytes), set to 1500 bytes by default in your router’s internet settings. This means you can’t upload files more than 1500 bytes.
Simply set it to 0 to remove this restriction.
I wonder if that above isn't exactly whats wrong...??

You can upload your files on internet on another computer so your internet has not any issue. But on computer where you are not able to upload files on internet you have to check firewall and antivirus security it blocks it because of security purpose so turn off antivirus and firewall for some time then check. Also try with another web browser like mozila. You can download it from below link. Click here Then install mozila and then check with it if mozila able to upload files then you need to check your IE. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

Check Engine Light

If you just put gas in the vehicle it may be as simple as not tightening the gas cap tight enough. This would trip for emissions and cause check engine light to come on. Worth a shot! Tighten the cap and drive see if goes off. Could also be carbon build up blocking the egr valve. Since an older person had the vehicle prior and likely didnt get on the gas much this would build up.

I think something maybe blocking it from closing check really well around the door and near the sensors. If that doesnt work i think a sensor went bad and now wants to stay open. Its like a position sensor tells the door how far to go and when to stop.

Dell Latitude 8100 Black screen after windows XP boot up

This sounds like the video cable might be loose. Unfortunately, this means partially disassembling the computer to fix it.
This is not really hard to do--and unless there is a warranty with the machine, I think you'll have to do it. I'll give you the link to help you with the task. I'm thinking this is a Latitude 810, not 8100.

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/manuals?~ck=ln&c=us&l=en&lnki=0&s=gen

Just download the manual and it will show you how to do it.

TV won't turn on - hums when remote is pressed

did u remember if u left ur tv on when u went out of town for one week? well probably a blown capacitor in the power supply circuit is the one u've heard. the symptom is usually caused by a breakdown in the power supply circuit. in most modern receivers (transistorized and/or ic), it may also be caused by a breakdown in the horizontal deflection circuits (hor. oscillator, pre-drive, or drive circuits). supply voltages for the tuner, vif, sif, and vertical output are usually supplied by the horizontal output circuit. but if you doesnt know anything about these stuffs, better bring it to a qualified service tecnhician.
