Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

4 Answers

Hi, My Canon Multipass F50 is flashing the "Wrong Cartridge" error message. I have read a proposed solution to get into the test mode, clear the eeprom and input (0) for the ink code. It doesn't have any effect. I have 4 brand new cartridges installed and am pretty sure it's a software glitch. Any way to reset the printer software? Comments on the Fixya page indicate changing cartridges, carriages and cleaning have no effect.

Your solution doesn't do anything. I have taken the carriage out before submitting my problem. I need a better understanding of why it thinks the cartridge is wrong. It was printing fine until recently and nothing has changed except its' belief that the cartridge is wrong. Any more suggestions or should I try someone else?

    Hi Daniel,

Your solution was abit incomplete, but that's OK, it added a bit of new info to the body of knowledge. When I took the cartridge out and pulled the plug, all was well. The only problem was that you didn't tell me at what point to reinstall the cartridge. I went through the steps you gave me and closed the printer. The printer went through its start up mode and at this point is quiet with no error message or alarm light flashing even though the cartridge has not been installed. Please provide a by the numbers

    1) Remove cartridge

    2) Disconnect printer

    3) Hold resume button

    4) Reconnect printer

    5) Reinstall cartridge

style instruction, so us po foks can follow. Ya here? No problem just kidding. I think you may be on to something, but I need just a bit more definition.

    Thanks

    Clay

No more experts need apply. All of the fixes are the same. If you read the "fixes" they don't address my problem. I need a driver reset and reload. Giving me a link to a website where I can buy a driver mender is not the answer. Nor is reseting the cartridge and/or printhesd (which I tried multiple times before emailing you all). Please refund my $20.

Hi

This issue is not due to software but a hardware issue. You would need to reseat/replace the printer head to resolve this issue. To remove the error Press the <Open> button (1), and then lift up the scanning unit (2). Make sure the printer is powered on.
Now the carriage will automatically move to the centre of the machine. Let the carriage stop and then lift up the locking lever, and then remove the print head. The print head can be removed with the ink tank still inside. Now, Replace the print head, and then press down on the locking lever. Close the scanner unit.
When the LCD displays the following, press the <Set> button. The machine will print a vertical line pattern.

Hope this helps... If it does please do not forget to accept the solution or post back for assistance.

    Hi

You can try and reset it by following this procedure---

Remove the Cartridge and unplug the printer from mains.Hold the resume button, release the resume button after plugging in the power back. Press the RESUME once within 5 seconds and release the RESUME . Now press and hold resume for 3-5 seconds and release it. Unplug it again and check, it should now work. If this doesn't work then you'll need to replace the print carriage.

Hope this helps... If it does please do not forget to accept the solution or post back for assistance.

Hi,

This is a common error on this printer. But, it is strange that there is no specific solution to this problem. I agree that it could be a software glitch, but more often it is a hardware fault. Before we proceed, make sure that you are using original cartridge. I have seen this issue more often if your are using after market cartridge.Few causes for this are :-

1. Driver is not installed properly
2. Printer sensor which senses the cartridge is defective
3. Color sensor is defective

Download the latest drivers from :-

http://www.nodevice.com/driver/MultiPASS_F50/get22187.html

You could enter the verification code, and then download the driver's. Before we proceed further, i read a reset method on one of the forums, which were successful for around 40% people. The method is :-

1: Remove Cartridge
2: Unplug the AC Power Cord
3: Hold down the RESUME button
4: Release RESUME after plugging in the AC Power cord.
5: Press the RESUME once within 5 seconds and release the RESUME .
6: Press and HOLD RESUME for two seconds or more and release it.
7: Press and HOLD RESUME for two seconds or more and release it.
8: Unplug AC Power Cord to set data.

OK!! If this would not work, we would follow the normal troubleshooting for this printer.

You probably have tried re-seating the cartridge. You need to try to re-seat the print head.

Reseat the Print head
Reseating the print head is seldomly required to do.

# Make sure the printer is powered on.

# Press the <Open> button (1), and then lift up the scanning unit (2).

The print head holder automatically moves to the center of the machine.

# CAUTION:
* Do not try to move or stop the print head holder manually.
* Do not touch any metal parts.

# Lift up the locking lever, and then remove the print head. The print head can be removed with the ink tank still inside.

Replace the print head, and then press down on the locking lever.

# Close the scanner unit.

# When the LCD displays the following, press the <Set> button.

# The machine will print a vertical line pattern.

# In column A on the printout, note which box has the most solid image. Note the value next to this box and use the [<] or [>] button on the operation panel to enter it. Then press the <Set> button.

# Note: If you have difficulty on Column A when choosing between two patterns, use the larger value number.

# Repeat step 7 for columns B to F. If you have difficuly choosing between patterns for Columns D, E or F, use the smaller value number.

# When values for all vertical columns on the printout have been entered, the LCD will display [LAT LINE PATTERN] and a lateral (horizontal) pattern will print.

# Review the lateral pattern printout, noting which solid box in Column G on the printout has the most solid image.

# For the G column printed pattern, use the [<] or [>] button to scroll to the value with the most solid box in the column.

Note: If you have difficulty on Column G when choosing between two patterns, use the smaller value number.

# Press <Set> to select.

# Repeat steps 11 and 12 for Column H on the printout.

# When print head alignment is complete, the machine will return to standby mode.

Check that area for debris of even the smallest dust or similar.

blow it out with computer compressed air can.

reseat it multiple times.

After all that, unplug the printer for ten minutes to let it do a soft reset.

If all that fails, then its likely a defect in the printer hardware in the ink sensor.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

"wrong cartridge" message appears, new

It could be due to "waste tank full" alarm; you may need to reset the waste tank counter.
I found a reset sequence for a MP730 printer in this website that works for F30 and F50 as well. Try:
Resetting the Waste Ink Volume Counter

1) Enter SERVICE MODE.---
By pressing Menu-Copy-#

2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Select [8] PRINTER TEST in TEST MODE.
4) Select 3. [EEPROM CLEAR].
5) Select 0. [INK COUNT].
6) Press the [OK] key.
7) Press the [Stop/Reset] key (returning to the state of 3)), and then press the [ON/OFF] key.

Skip step (6) since there is no [OK] key on F30 or F50 printers.

The alarm is flashing

Wrong cartridge means your printhead is worn out, not inks, you just need a new printhead.

My Canon Multipass F50 has a "check printer" error and won't print. The ink cartridges will not move when you open the door (as if to replace). It won't even turn off to cycle it to clear the error,

I had a similar problem. Go to this page http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/inkjet/29693 and try the codes they suggest to reset the count for the waste tanks. Good luck.

Canon MP F50 "wrong cartridge" error

remove all cartridges leaving printhead intact.
close cover, turn off
turn on, let power up, error message should be gone.
open cover, reinstall cartridges
if you cleaned your print head like I did you'll probly
eventually end up getting a new one anyway, due to the color variations
but I can at least print text.

Wrong cartridge messsage

Hi, Please follow :
1. Reseat F30 / F50 print head 2. The Print Head may need replacing - F50 3. Press ON/OFF switch to reset the multifunction device 4. The F50 may require repair

You can see exactly how to perform these steps with pictures at this link

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=6324

Go to this link if you are unable to find the"Wrong Catridge" link
then you need to type "wrong cartridge " in the small search box on the website.
If the website asks you to select
"Category.=Multifunction"
"Product Type =Inkjet"
"Model= Multipass F50"

Cheers
