Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I have recently replaced the fan motor on my Briskair roof top A/C unit, should the squirrel cage draw air from inside the trailer and blow out rear of the unit, or have I installed this fan incorrectly?

Yes the air should be drawn from the trailer, over the cold coils and then
back into the trailer, whether rear or front.
The condenser coils should be self contained on top and blow
warm air outside the trailer

How do I clean dryer squirrel cage?

To remove drum/fan drive motor:

• Remove rear panel & rear air duct. Remove belt from belttensioner. Remove top panel & drum if needed for better access.
• Disconnect terminal connector from motor, then remove two screws from motor mount & one screw holding fan to front shield. Lift rear of motor mount up and slide entire assembly toward rear of dryer.
• While holding motor shaft, not rotor fins, remove fan blade from motor shaft. Remove three screws, then remove fan housing from motor.
• Remove spring clamps by pushing ends of them down and away from motor. Lift motor up from motor mount.

Cage motor is the best blow out with compressed air. Also, by the way, clean the fan housing from the inside.

What causes a repetitive, rapidly repeating, hammering or slapping sound in my rv roof top ac?

It's sounds like a critter may have started to make a nest in the blower motor fan. I recommend trying to clean out the fan motor squirrel cage.

Coleman RV Rooftop Air Conditioner - cage fan making a noise like it is hitting on something as it goes around. The motor works as it should, low and high fan and cool, the air is cold. The only thing...

Hi,
Those squirrel cage fans have a habit of coming apart, or getting dirt in them and going out of balance...then they wobble and hit the sides of the fan housing...
Make sure the fan is clean and also move it around a bit to make sure it is not coming apart....
Often the only way to fix them is too replace the sqirrel cage part...

Goodman ac heat air handler starts noisily for about 30 seconds then stops. Condenser fan is okay. Inside fan works but seems weak. I can't find the model number, so I just picked the first one.

inside the air handle there is a motor and a cage(squirrel). I am assuming this is the problem. The side that has the pilot light, take this cove off first, then the back cover. There is a switch so when you take the back cover off it opens the circuit. You will see a main board and to the left and behind is the motor and squirrel cage. I would kill power and then remove the bolts making sure I make the wires and where they go. Then just take the motor and cage out. You will need a allen wrench to remove cage, then replace motor. Hope this helps Tim

I have goodman CKL49-1, air is not blowing, the

Your evaporator fan motor has quit. You need to find out if it is a relay or the fan motor. These systems come in various different setups. Updraft (vertical) or lay down (horizontal) you have to gain access to the motor and get it out. Turn off all power to the unit, look for any breakers at the panel. open the panel usually the same panel to access the filters. The motor and squirrel cage fan, will come out as one. look closely for rails at the top to slide the motor and cage out. Your wiring should unplug from the top close to the capacitor. you then can unbolt the motor - take pictures so you can reassemble it. Take the motor to a local HVAC store for a match. Be sure you get a new capacitor to go with the new motor.

Air conditioner and heat blower

You will have two fans, one fan blows out the rear of the unit that cools the condenser soil, one blows out the front across the evaporator that blows the cold air out into the room. Some window a/c's have whats called a squirrel cage fan assy. that has one motor that runs both fans. So you either have one bad fan motor (the evap fan motor) or you have a bad fan blade that has fallen off the shaft. Also check the filter see if it is clean.

Running not blowing air

sounds as if fan isnt attached to motor shaft. There is a set screw on the fan cage that if it loosens the shaft will turn inside of the fan not turning the fan( also known as a squirrel cage) You need to get access to the fan motor and see first if its shaft is rotating, if it is see if the squirrel cage is turning if not the set screw located on the inner collar of the squirrel cage needs to be tightened. Thie set screw is more than likly an allen set screw.
