Question about HP L1940T 19" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

My new L1940T (hp) monitor is stuck in sleep mode. At boot, green light illuminates, then goes orange. Window opens saying 'going to sleep mode' then completely unresponsive. Tried everything; moving and clicking mouse, scroll wheel, pushing keyboard buttons, pressing and holding buttons, removing external USB devices, removing a CD, tried pressing '+' and '-' buttons on monitor. Am running Windows 7 64bit. Please help! I'm a freelancer with a big job on at the moment and can't afford this!

Once more thankyou for your reply. Haven't tried booting in safe mode actually, will try now. 2 new pieces of software installed about a week prior to this problem starting, both installed and ran fine. Also using an external HD for same length of time with no hiccups. If booting in safe mode does not help i'm going to install a new graphics card.

We need to narrow down to find out if it is your PC is not sending the video signal to the monitor or the monitor itself is bad, you need to try this monitor with another PC or try this PC with another monitor. Please post back what you find after trying the suggestions.<br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt"><a rel='nofollow' href="http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums">http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums</a></span><br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt"> </span><br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'"><a rel='nofollow' href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague</a></span><br />

Thanks for your reply. I'd forget to mention i'd already tried another monitor with the PC. Guess it must be software related?

So another monitor with this PC and it does the same, stuck in sleep mode? Did you install any new software or update before this problem occurs? What happen if you boot in safe mode (hit F8 while booting up)?

My Computer boots and montitor says Going to sleep and flashes VGA : NO signal and goes off

Check under "Power Options" of the control panel of Windows that "Turn off Monitor" is set to "Never" Also check under the advanced tab of "Power options" that "When I press the sleep button on my computer" its set to "Do Nothing"

This will most likely solve your problem. the sleep button may be stuck on the keyboard causing the pc to quickly go into sleep mode

Monitor going right to sleep mode on start up

Sounds like a bad graphics card. Try using monitor wit another computer and see if the problem still exists. This rules out the display.

PC shuts down while running Windows

Attempt to boot the machine in Safe-Mode.

While powering up continuously hit F8.

You will get a Boot Option Menu, Select Safe-Mode boot

If you can get into safe-mode I would suggest to try doing an online scan, as it sounds like your issue could be related to malware:

Monitor in sleep mode

This problem could be caused by windows or the monitor .You need to hook up your monitor to another computer and see if you get the same response. If you do check and see in the owners manual if there is a control for power management.Find the control and try to adjust it, or turn it off. If all this does not work than you need to take the monitor in for servicing. If the monitor works, you may have a problem with the computer bios or windows itself. Check all power management controls in the bios and window settings and see if you can find the problem.Check the Microsoft website for this problem with your operating system and a solution. Hope this helps.

Stuck in sleep mode

Press the power button on the Computer it should come out of sleep mode then if it doesn't hold the power button of the computer down until the system turns completely off.

Then turn back on the computer should now boot fine. Once in windows goto control panel and select power option then adjust the setting.
