Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a crosley conservator refrigerator, it says "twist air" on the bottom of the freezer door, and while the freezer works ok, the fan in the back of the freezer has seemed to have stopped working, like 3 days ago, and the refrigerator area wont' cool any longer. Of course, I opened the freezer door and pushed the button to see if the fan would come on, and it would not. So, the first thing I did, even though there was really no ice build-up at all, was to completely turn it off and defrost it, and clean it, and then let it sit for 24 hours. I thought the fridge part might start working again, but alas, it will not. Is there a power supply or something that I can replace myself, so it wont cost me an arm and a left to fix it? We've had it at least 7 years, so there isn't any warranty left, and I would hate to throw it away since it's in mint condition otherwise. Can anyone help me figure this out? And if you are wondering the model number, I never found it, I looked everywhere. It's a shorter model and is only 63.5 inches tall and 23 inches wide, if that helps you know the approximate model.

Would this be called the "evaporator fan assembly", when I ask for it as a part? Would it possibly be bad, even if you can turn it by hand from inside the freezer?

My Maytag MFF2558VEM Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator doesn't keep cool

What you should be looking for is a blocked air flow. The fan in the freezer will push air up to the fridge and cool it off. Look for a dead fan motor in the freezer or a blocked air vent Good luck

The freezer side does not freeze on the top shelf. The refrigerator freezes everything in the bottom but reads 47 degrees and doesn't cool the top shelves. The fan under the fridge runs fine.

Behind the back wall of the freezer about halfway down, probably behind the light bulb (if there is one there) there is a fan. My guess is that the fan isn't working, or is slow. To test, open the freezer door, then hold the door switch closed and listen for the fan.

This fan should be blowing air up the back of the freezer, and send some of the cold air through a vent at the top of the freezer into the fridge. The air then descends through the fridge and reenters the freezer through a vent at the bottom. If the fan is broken, or if the upper vent is somehow blocked or broken, the cold air will enter (rather than exit) the fridge side at the bottom vent. Because cold air tends to descend and warm air rises, the cold air will freeze the stuff at the bottom of the fridge, and the thermostat (at the top of the fridge) will say it is warm.

Refrigerator doesn't work but freezer does double door stainless steel bottom freezer bought in 2006

Check the air circulation fan motor for proper operation. It's located in the freezer compartment. If it doesn't work, replace it. If it's ok, check your door seals for gaps and leaks. Also check for proper door closure and alignment.

Maytag mff2557hew fridge not cooling. Freezer ok.

Sounds like the Freezer Fan is wearing out or is worn out. This fan problem is very hard to detect. The reason is that when the motor is starting to wear out the fan will spin, but at a much lower rpm. This is enough to keep the freezer cold. but will not ciculate enough air thru the freezer and the refrigerator to prevent freezer from and refrigerator from cooler. The cost to repair/replace this fan is a minimum of $300.00

Refrigerator wont stay cold.Freezer works fine,no frost buildup

i replace the evaporator fan, this fan problem is hard to diagnose because the fan will spin but not fast enough to circulate the chilled air thru the freezer and the refrigerator. The minimum cost to repair/replace is around $300.00

The water could have been frozen in the door and melted when your fridge warmed up.

The lower hinge on each door may have a door closing cam. It raises the door up ¼ inch when opening and this assist in closing the door. If it’s wore out and doesn’t work the door may not seal and the gasket can be damaged. Watch the operation of the door to see if it rises up when opened.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

Kitchenaid refrigerator w/bottom freezer french doors

please check the air flow to the refrigerator side. it could be a stuck damper motor or damper thermostat. if the fan inside the freezer is running, you should be able to feel cold air coming out off the vents in the refrigerator side. you might have to press the button light switch on the panels to run the fan.

There is a fan inside the freezer which circulates cold air through the air diffuser and then through the return duct at the bottom of the fridge. This fan may not be working. You should be able to hear it when you open the freezer door. If you cannot hear the fan going with the door open, keep the door open and press the button that switches the internal light off. The fan should run. If no fan running in freezer test for supply to fan. The fan may be faulty or the thermostat which is in line with the fan could be faulty.

Sani, see if the evaporator fan is running. That would be the fan in the freezer compartment. It moves the cold air to the bottom. If that is ok, then you may have a defrost problem. Is the freezer panel in back all frosted over? If so, it's probabley a defrost issue. Check these things first and post back...Catriver.
