Question about Computers & Internet

Gateway laptop puchased Jan.13, 2008 is now locking up.

Please help. This new laptop is responding to nothing, including a system restore from almost a month ago. What's going on, and what is so absolutely impossible to provide simple recovery with a laptop designed in South Dakota? Please advise? Thank you.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

How to reboot my gateway nv53 laptop to factory without a cd bought this laptop used starting to have problems so i want to erase everything and make it like new

Hi.

The laptop may have a hidden recovery partion which you can access from boot up. Turn the laptop off and then restart it. When you see the Gateway logo hold down Alt and repeatedly press the F10 key. From there follow the on-screen instructions to restore the laptop to factory defaults, it should take about half an hour but could be longer.

Remember to back up any data that you want before you restore the system.

If you can't access the recovery partition then you can use Windows to do it for you. Click on the Start Menu> All Programs>Gateway and then Gateway Recovery Management. In the Gateway Recovery window click on Restore and then select Restore System to factory default and follow the on-screen instruction. The computer will restart and proceed with the restore.

Regards.

My mom coughed up on her gateway ZA8 netbook, and though i've dried it and done a system restore as well as checked that the drivers are updated... the keyboard wont type or respond - help please :(

The keyboard has likely gotten fried, due to a short circuit..It's unlikely it'll work ever again if she 'coughed up' alot...
Your best bet is to get it fixed under warranty or an extended warranty, if you still have one.
You can also get a USB keyboard to hook up to it, or you can find a laptop repair shop to get a new keyboard installed.

Sorry Mr. C. When you restored,You restored back to the original condition of the computer ,as when you received it, and did so right on top of your data, overwriting it.

I have a virus

sorry to hear about that. Have you still got the restore disks from when you purchased the computer? If not contact the supplier and ask them to send you some, it will put your computer back to its original state from when you purchased it.

Stupid gateway computer!!

Start by doing a system restore. If the restore doesn't work, I'm afraid the software has glitched and you will have to remove and reinstall it, losing any files stored in the program. If the files are stored in "my documents" then you won't lose them.
