Singer 7442 not sewing!

Hello, I have a new machine that was working fine until I broke the needle and changed the thread. Now despite cleaning the feeding dogs and putting the needle correctly, following the instructions it does not pick up the bottom thread, the material appear untouched ,it is not sewing at all!  Can you please help me...It is quite frustrating ,I keep reading the manual and repeating the same thing without any result. Thank you

I can't seem to get the machine to sew and it appears to be coming from the dog feed or the bottom bobbin. I have tried everything. When I attempt to start to sew the machine makes a knoocking sound, jumps and the bottom bobbin doesnt appear to move. Can you help?

My machine is 3 weeks old. Worked great up until today. The machine beeps and the lights blink. But that's it. I've tried the manual. No luck.

I tried servicing the bobbin area of my Singer 7442. I followed the instructions in the manual carefully. The straight stitch is working but all other stitches are not catching in the bobbin.

Couple of things to check is the needle new? if not change it,
Pull the bobbin thread out and bobbin case, then put the machine on a zig zag stitch, turn the hand wheel slowly and see if the hook (pointy thing that catches the thread) is just above the eye on the needle (when the swing is all the way to right) if it is not then you need to take your machine in for service.

Good luck and please rate my answer.

My bobbing thread is looping on all types of stitching. Machine was working fine. Cleaned all reachable components as per manual.

Most of the time it is in your top threading or a bad needle. Try this and if it doesn't work call Singer at 1-800-4singer. I am hoping that it is not the timing. Good luck

Sewing machine won't raise the bobbin thread

Hi. The two main reasons why the top thread doesn't pick up the bobbin thread is either the needle is inserted wrong or the needle is bent. Since your machine was sewing properly until the thread broke, I'd be inclined to think the needle may have gotten bent. Sometimes this can happen if you sew over a pin.

Change the needle (making sure the flat side of the needle shank is inserted properly for your machine) and see if that solves the problem. Let me know if it helps, ok?

Oil a 7442 sewing machine

Hi. Your manual will tell you where to oil your machine, or if it's self-oiling (in which case you don't oil it). If you've lost your manual, check with http://www.mastersewusa.com/menu-singer_iinstructional.htm; they have your manual. I wrote a small tip on oiling your machine, too.

Be sure to use good sewing machine oil in your machine. You can get it at any fabric store or order it online. One of my favorite online stores for sewing supplies is Nancy's Notions (http://www.nancysnotions.com/).

Whether or not your machine is self-oiling, be sure to keep the lint cleaned out of the bobbin area. You can use a small brush (even a little paint brush works nicely) and just brush all the bits of lint out. A good habit to get into is to brush all the lint out when you go to put your machine away after each use.

Since you're new to sewing, here's a couple more things that are good to know:

Use good quality thread. Protect your thread supplies from dust and sunlight. Old or cheap thread breaks easily and gives off more lint.

Use a new needle with each project you sew and make sure you use the right size needle and thread for what you're sewing. I wrote a quick guide about which needle to use with what fabric.

Most problems you experience with your machine can be solved by rethreading your machine or changing the needle.

Happy Sewing!

My Singer Advance 7422 skips stitches intermittently. Looks like it does not pick up the bobbin thread sometimes. Any suggestions?

Change to a new needle appropriate for the fabric you will be sewing. Make sure the flat side of the needle shank faces to the back of the sewing machine.

Always thread the machine with the presser foot up as this will "seat" the thread into the tension control.

Singer touch n sew 750 winding bobbins

You can find Singer bobbin winding instructions at http://www.singerco.com/resources/bobbin_wind.html.
"Birdnesting" occurs when there is no tension on the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. This is easily corrected by rethreading the machine, following the threading path carefully and making sure the thread is fully engaged in the tension mechanism.

Singer 7442 will not sew

Had the same problem as mommyb2 - it was the bobbin spindel was in the wrong position. Push bobbin spindel to the left and it works for sewing.
Have the same problem winding my first bobbin - pushed spindel to the right to engage bobbin fuction and the machine locks up and wont wind the bobbin. Irig did you bring it in for repair? I'm thinking its broke - which **** as mine is a brand new machine

Singer 7442 is Loud!

Check to see that lint or oil has not collected on the hook or needle bar. Always use a good quality sewing machine oil. A damaged needle can also be the cause of a noisy machine - insert a new needle.
