Question about Casio Protrek Triple Sensor PRG80T7VDR 4 6 Watch for Men

1 Answer

I purchased a casio protrek PRG-80T-7V 2 years ago. I haven't experienced any problems with it until recently. When I traveled abroad i passed through the ray gate in the airport wearing my watch. This made the compass showing wrong indications. I read the instructions in the manual and performed both bidirectional and northern calibration but without any result. The are is not a display of error either. It performs both the calibrations processes but then it still gives wrong indications. Was the sensor damaged or magnetized in the airport? Can you advice me what to do?

Thanks for the advice! I took the watch to a casio dealer who took the battery off and reset the watch. The compass still doesn't work. The barometer and altimeter though work ok. Is this possible if the sensor was damaged?

Re:"When I traveled abroad i passed through the ray gate in the airport wearing my watch. This made the compass showing wrong indications."

The strong electromagnetic field produced by airport detectors can damage electronic devices.

Try removing the battery for five minutes to reset the watch, if that does not fix the problem , then the internal chips are irreparabaly damaged.

Note: the battery is replaced opening the back plate. The back plate of the Casio can be opened at home using a pair of tweezer, then taking care not to damage the rubber seal, battery is flipped out and replaced. watch is reassembled by placing the seal in correct way and using the tweezers to screw the back cover.
It may look like a simple operation, but if it is not being done properly you can compromise the impermeability of the watch. I suggest having the job done at an authorized shop.

If battery reset does not help, then the watch logic circuits got damaged by the airport scanner.

Regards.

Ginko.

    HI:

Re:I took the watch to a casio dealer
who took the battery off and reset the watch. The compass still doesn't
work. The sensor (which is a chip ) had been damaged by the strong elecromagnetic field from the airport scanner. The sensor is sensible to elecromagnectic forces within the range of the earth field. The airport scanner litterally blew it up!
I do not think this kind of damage is even covered by warranty.

My Casio Protrek PRG 120 triple sensor show an "open" message and I am no longer able to program the functions and including the alarm. Please tell me what I should do.

it's because the contact that sense whether the watch is opened or not is misaligned.
Just open the watch caseback, re-allign the gold contact on the case-back, and make sure it touches the spring in the other side of the watch.

Try to reset the watch. But first be sure that you capable of doing this.
Reseting the watch procedure:
1)Remove the back cover.Be sure that you have the appropriate screwdriver.Keep the 4 screws safe, not to loose them.
2)On the chassis of the watch (metallic surface) somewhere there is a hole with AC (All Clear) written nearby.
3)Use one little thin retracted paper clip (not totally retracted).Insert the retracted end of the clip into the hole, gently, until it touches the end and with the upper part of the clip contact the chassis (metallic surface). Wait for 1-2 sec and remove the clip gently. The watch is now reset. All functions have been set to factory settings.
4)Put back in place and with caution the back cover, respecting right (up-down) positioning and taking care that the O-ring gasket is well in place, first.
5)Holding in place with one finger the back cover, screw back screws gently and without applying excessive force (delicate job) until you meet resistance, in the following order:
Up-right,down-left,up-left,down-right.
After setting the time/day/date etc try to calibrate compass both ways as you did before.
I hope this will solve your problem.
NOTE:Again,be absolutely sure that you are capable of doing this.
It is a bit delicate job.If not,you better bring the watch to an official CASIO service center.

Casio PRO TREK error 'OP EN' Display frozen with the above msg. None of the buttons - except the light - works. Whats wrong .. battery charge shows FULL

The problems is very simple: On the back cover (inside) is a little Cu metal Part. This part is glued to back cover using a poor glue (rubbered glue) and, in time, is moving from original position. You must put back this parts to original positin ( a little hole inside of back cover) and glue using a good glue. When the back cover is mounted , this part must have a ferm contact with two springs from mechanism (sensor for back cover open). If beatwin this springs isn't a electric short (using Cu metal parts) the internal mechanism of watch "see" the back cover is open and show "OPEN" on screen!
