Sony KDL-40w2000, Row of Dead Pixels, PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi all, on Saturday my 40" Sony Bravia KDL-40w2000 suddenly developed a black line, virtually the entire length of the screen. I have researched and now realise this line represents a LOT of dead pixels that I am unable to repair. I would return it but, just my luck, the set is nearly 14 months old, ie out of warranty!!!! I have bought nothing but Sony hardware for years and years as I have always thought it reliable, I think I may now revise that opinion.

I have 2 questions. Firstly, does anyone think it worth me contacting Sony, or would that be pointless due to the warranty expiring? I think it would be pointless, I guess I am just hoping this may be a known fault that they stretch a point over, but that's being very, very, very hopeful!!!

Secondly, is there any way I can get this fault repaired, or would it cost as much as a new set? These are dead pixels from my understanding, so I know there is no hope of a quick, non-intrusive fix.

Anyway I remain philosophical about this problem I'm annoyed but some people have real problems so I'm not letting it really get to me. If anyone can provide me with any help, I would be eternally grateful

Thankyou, Mike

I ALSO HAVE A THIN GREEN LINE RUNNING DOWN MY SONY KDL40S20L1 TELEVISION. I CALLED SONY AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRENTY , THE SET IS ONLY 14 MONTHS OLD. I WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR IT OUT OF MY OWN POCKET THEY WERE NO HELP

I too, have the same problem. I just called SONY and there is a exchange program but only if your TV is still in warranty. Too bad that my TV is 15months old. I think they know the problem but using the 1 year warranty rule refuse any repair. I used to believe in SONY but I am having second thoughts now.

Sounds like a LCD panel issue. As long as the panel is not cracked, they can cost about half the cost of the TV out of warranty. Still I recommend contacting Sony. It's not the first time a panel was due to manufacturing defects and may be covered even if the set is out of warranty.

I also have the same problem. Thin black line midway down the screen extending 2/3 of the way across the display. I'm at 10 1/2 months into the warranty period and am working with Sony on the issue currently.

I'm sorry to hear that.
You can try to call them and ask them if they could help you. Just make sure when you call try not to demand anything, tell them you are a lifetime Sony user and you have faith in their product and you hope they can help you on this matter.
Ask to speak to different people or the manager and see how it goes.
Good Luck.

Sorry to hear that!

But you have a dead row of pixels.

You should contact Sony for a warranty replacement as fixing this yourself is all but impossible.

Once again, sorry to hear this and hopefully Sony will provide you with a prompt response!

Try using a different wall outlet or use another surge protector other than the one your using now.
If still having problems its an indication that the power supply or your inverter boards are developing a minor problem. Follow me at the link below so I can help you further, if this helps please rate:-)

A fine green vertical line displayed on the Sony Bravia 46.

Thats a pixel data problem, there's no data being sent to that row of pixels so they don't change color. This is a pixel address registry (PAR) issue and the PAR circuits need to be serviced its usually due to open or shorted SMT components on the PAR circuits. PAR also sends data, voltage, and control to each pixel, the green line you see are pixels that have voltage but because there's no data sent too them their all green because there's no control. If the pixels have voltage but no data or control they show up as green red, blue, yellow, or whit line vertically down the LCD panel. The vertical-horizontal section of PAR are controlled by 16 to 32 bit micro-controllers which may need replacing. If its under warranty take it back if not have your local repair center fix the tv for you...

I am amazed it lasted that long. It could well be in the panel and would be expensive to fix. I think you would be better served at checking out a 40-42" LCD replacement. They've come a long way since yours was made.
