Question about Sony BRAVIA KDL-40S2000 40 in. LCD HDTV
Hi all, on Saturday my 40"
Sony Bravia KDL-40w2000 suddenly developed a black line, virtually the
entire length of the screen. I have researched and now realise this
line represents a LOT of dead pixels that I am unable to repair. I
would return it but, just my luck, the set is nearly 14 months old, ie
out of warranty!!!! I have bought nothing but Sony hardware for years
and years as I have always thought it reliable, I think I may now
revise that opinion.
I have 2 questions. Firstly, does anyone think it worth me contacting Sony, or would that be pointless due to the warranty expiring? I think it would be pointless, I guess I am just hoping this may be a known fault that they stretch a point over, but that's being very, very, very hopeful!!!
Secondly, is there any way I can get this fault repaired, or would it cost as much as a new set? These are dead pixels from my understanding, so I know there is no hope of a quick, non-intrusive fix.
Anyway I remain philosophical about this problem I'm annoyed but some people have real problems so I'm not letting it really get to me. If anyone can provide me with any help, I would be eternally grateful
Sounds like a LCD panel issue. As long as the panel is not cracked, they can cost about half the cost of the TV out of warranty. Still I recommend contacting Sony. It's not the first time a panel was due to manufacturing defects and may be covered even if the set is out of warranty.

I also have the same problem. Thin black line midway down the screen extending 2/3 of the way across the display. I'm at 10 1/2 months into the warranty period and am working with Sony on the issue currently.

I'm sorry to hear that.
You can try to call them and ask them if they could help you. Just make sure when you call try not to demand anything, tell them you are a lifetime Sony user and you have faith in their product and you hope they can help you on this matter.
Ask to speak to different people or the manager and see how it goes.
