Question about Zebra 105SL Thermal Label Printer

Open Question

Whenever I print for a while, I get the message - error condition ribbon out . Everything is set up correctly. The ribbon and labels are all going the right way. The sensors are lined up. This machine has always worked ok. If I do a sensor calibration or just print the sensor profile, the labels stop where they are supposed to. Whenever I pull the label too hard to rip it off, the error lights come on. If I am gentle, then it keeps working. I can't ask the warehouse users to constantly be gentle and continuously recalibrate. Is it time for a new sensor? Anyone else ever had this issue?

Called a service tech. The diagnosis was that the ribbon sensor was bad. So, I was right. Couldn't see the issue but it looked like the wire underneath the shield had gotten disconnected. A sensor replacement fixed the problem.

When I try printing, the label sheet comes out without being printed then stops and the "condition/error" lights blink.

First you need to check the blink rate:
If fast this denotes a ribbon error - check ribbon is installed correctly.
If slow this denotes a label sense error - check the sensors are clean and are correctly aligned.

I turn on the zebra z4m and it runs the labels even with no information sent to the printer. I can not use the cancel or pause button to stop. I runs for a minute and then error condition ribbon out. I...

1.Double check that the ribbon and the labels are routed correctly. 2.Make sure the media guide is holding the labels against the inside of the printer and not moving to the right away from the media sensor. If the labels are sliding to the right as they come out, increase the left side head pressure on top with a flat blade screw driver. Download the user manual at zebra.com .Check the media type and sensor type, and set for thermal transfer if using a ribbon.

Error condition - ribbon out - there is no ribbon how do I correct this

Locate your printer driver under devices and printers Right click on it and select "Printing Preferences"

Choose the "Advanced Setup" tab

Change media type to "Direct Thermal"

Be sure that "use printer settings" is NOT selected at the top left

Click OK and you should be good.

Note that any labels created prior to this change will need to be changed inside each label under the label setup.

Have X3 Zebra 140Xilll printers. These printers will stop printing with a message "Error condition Paper out". But the paper is loaded. Everything seems fine. What can I do? Thanks Steve Rolland

Check and clean the sensors, also the reflective surface. Make sure there are no lables stuck to the reflective surface. Use Isopropyl Alcohol to clean.

Zebra ZM600 - ribbon in error

Make sure the ribbon sensor is in the proper position and that there is nothing covering it, like a piece of label that came off and got stuck to the sensor. Here is a picture of where the sensor is located. Did you make sure you put the ribbon sensor plate back in? If not you will get this message. Make sure the Print Method is correctly set! Although I exclusively use Thermal-Transfer (ribbon is loaded along with label stock) my 140xIII had Print Method set to Direct-Thermal and printed labels just fine. The only problem I could see was that the Ribbon In warning would not go away.
After changing the Print Method the warning went away and printing continues as before

"warning Ribbon In" error message

Had the same problem with a ZM400. As stated in the User manual (can be downloaded http://www.zebra.com/id/zebra/na/en/index/resource_library/manuals.results.html?FRRBarcodePrinters=6882), warning "Ribbon in" is usually caused by the wrong printing method (thermal direct instead of thermal transfer [which should be selected for ribbbons]). My error disappeared after choosing "thermal transfer" directly on the printer. For network printers this needs to be set by an admin in the network settings for the the printer to solve the problem permanently.
