Problems with IBM Xseries 346 Server

Check Light Path Diagnostic which is located on the front side of server . It gives a clue of what's the issue . If you can't see any amber on Light Path Diagnostic , then its an indication of max logs logged on BIOS event logs. You may need to restart server > Get into Bios and clear all event logs . This would remove the information sympol from server .

I have IBM eServer xSeries 225 8649 and I want to load vmWare 4.1. I tried booting through USB. But it did not boot, what should I do to boot vmware from USB on this server.

Ok, you need to go into the BIOS and change the boot order of your server, as the power comes on press and hold F2 and then go into the boot menu and change the order of the boot to allow the USB to boot first.

What kind of memory for IBM XEON xseries 226 need 4 gigs. help

First, find out exactly what is in it now.
Google "CPUZ"
Download the zip file and extract it.
Run the program and it will provide the exact speed, size and slot locations of your installed memory modules.
Then contact a major memory vendor such as or
Let them know what you have in your server and they will tell you how to get to 4GB.
One more thing, make sure that you have the absolute latest BIOS installed. BIOS updates frequently include support for faster memory. Get the BIOS from IBM's website. You will need the exact model number. It should be on the front of the case by the serial number.

Vote for this solution if it helps.

The good news is IBM says it will work, the BIOS might require an upgrade. I would consult and get the latest updates for your hardware after that insert CD and reboot!
Have Fun.

IBM xseries 205, Model 8480-43X Memory upgrade an POST BEEP

Those beeps mean that your RAM is not functioning. Are you sure you got the right upgrade type. Sometimes it'll fit into socket but won't work because of speed. Or just try reseating the modules.

Processor support?

According to IBM, no. the fastest CPU you can use for the 8479 is a 1.26Ghz, 512kb Cache, 133Mhz FSB, Socket 370 Processor PN 32P0652. Made by IBM.
Also known as a PIII-S. You can get one for around $12 on Pricewatch.
I personally think it might work if it's a 512kb cache 1.45v chip; If it was mine I might try it, but I can't find even anecdotal evidence of anyone trying it. I'd put it at a 50/50 chance of smoking your motherboard, CPU, or both.
