The letters are stacked together on MS works word. I have to hit space bar twice to get proper lettering. This happens on both reading and writeing.

It sounds like the letter spacing needs to be adjusted. There are a few ways to do it:
If viewing a document using Microsoft® Word the following steps can be taken to change the individual character spacing.

  • Select all the text in the document using the menu items Edit > Select All(Shortcut key is CTRL and A on the keyboard).
  • Navigate menu to Format > Font and select the Character Spacing tab. The Font dialogue box (as shown in Figure 1) is displayed.
  • Use the Spacing section to increase or decrease the spacing between the letters.
If you need further assistance let me know.
Thank you,
Lee

I have the Brother dream weaver and I have no idea what I am doing. So how do I get the letters closer together when forming a word?

On the Dream Weaver VQ3000, you press the spacing button and then press the - button on the screen. If you only see the Close and a button with two stacked carets pointing up, an "expand" button, press the expand button. Then the spacing button will be the second from the right in the second row in the newly visible buttons. This spacing will change the spacing of all the letters. It can be applied before, during or after choosing the letters in the word/words. The closest spacing value available is 0 (0 mm apart) and is the default for the machine out of the factory. All of the values are integers; a value of 1 = 0.18 mm spacing. A value of 5 = 0.9 mm spacing between the letters. Note: there is a space character; it's to the right of the apostrophe and below the w.

You can find this described on page S-80 of the manual (page 152 of the PDF). The manual is available on the product support page: http://www.brother-usa.com/support/modelinfo.aspx?R3ModelID=VQ3000 ; click on the Manuals & Documents tab. The direct link to this manual is currently http://www.brother-usa.com/VirData/Content/en-US/HAD/Consumer/UsersManual/UM_DreamWeaver%e2%84%a2%20Innov_is%20VQ3000_EN_7077.PDF . Other Brother sewing machine manuals are probably available here: http://www.brother-usa.com/support/ .

I hope this helps.

The letters get all jumbled when I type, not how other devices work.

You have to hit the symbols key twice quickly, I think, to get letters, 3 times for capitals, etc. something like that
