Question about Exercise & Fitness

My second hand Body Sculpture BT-3300E treadmill is now not starting up properly. Power is on OK, computer is OK, but when I press start the motor receives power and does a mini "jolt" or pulse start before nothing else happens - it just stops. Power remains on the computer. Anyone got any ideas of what is wrong and where I can get any replacement parts? Thanks Bert

The power trips are fine and do not trip. Power is maintained on the machine whilst the motor pulse happens when I press start. I have taken the cover off and checked other basics e.g. the motor brushes are fine, any and all trip switches on the circuit boards are fine, the circuit board fuse is fine.

Thanks. Tried what you suggested and the motor only moved the first time I applied a voltage. Since then it appears not to be responding at all. I only have 14.4v and 15.6v drills - are these powerful enough to move the motor? The rating plate says it is a 180v & 3hp (peak) motor? But I guess it looks like the motor is gone.
    Thanks

Hi,

There could be many causes for the same. Few of the major reasons are mentioned below :-

1. It could be due to faulty motor.

MOTOR TESTING
DC motors can be easily tested in a number of ways. Many times a motor is replaced only to find another problem exists so be sure to test the motor if you think it is a problem.

Methods to test a motor: 1) Cordless drill battery- get a fully-charged, 18 volt (preferred) cordless drill battery and on most treadmills connect the red and black motor leads to the battery (some have different colors but if you have two wires and get it hooked up backwards, the motor will just run backwards and won’t be harmed). If good, the motor should operate at about 1 MPH.
2) Car battery- these are 12VDC high amp batteries so the motor will turn slowly but you can walk on the belt. Always be careful with battery acid on these things so we don’t recommend bringing them in the house…take the treadmill to the battery.
3) Lantern battery- a fully charged lantern battery should operate your motor at a slow speed but lacks the amperage to have someone walk on the belt.
4) Use an outside DC converter with a variable speed input. The most complex but also the best way to test a motor. If you have a way to do this, it is the preferred method and how we do it in the field on local service calls.

2. Faulty speed sensor could be one of the reasons.

3. Even friction could lead to this problem. You could lube your treadmill ( read the owner's manual for the complete maintenance schedule )

Lastly, it could be a faulty control board ( though seems rare ). It might appears fine visually.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

Using 15.6 v drill, the treadmill should have run ( very slow ).It seems that the issue is with the motor.Replace it and more likely it would solve the problem.

Hello,

Power issues with treadmills fit into two categories: the power does not turn on or the power shuts off when using the treadmill. If the power will not turn on, make sure that the treadmill is plugged into a working power outlet. In addition, you should use a single-outlet surge protector for the treadmill. Single-outlet surge protectors protect the machine from any voltage changes that may occur in your home.

If the machine is plugged into a working outlet, make sure the safety key is in the keyhole on the console. If the safety key is not plugged into the machine or if it is pulled out during operation, the treadmill will not operate.

Finally, make sure the circuit breaker located on the frame near the power cord is set to "Reset." The circuit breaker is set to "Reset" if the top of the button is pushed in. When the breaker is tripped, push it back to the "Reset" position and wait five minutes before powering on the treadmill.

If the treadmill shuts off during operation, check the power cord and circuit breaker as described above. You can also try removing and reinserting the safety key.
Take care.

My BT3152 treadmill has stopped working, the belt no longer moves

Is anything jamming the belt or motor drive pulley? Look carefully for anything that could be jamming it. If you suspect the motor could be bad, take it electrically out of the circuit and connect it directly to the your power supply, if it spins up you know its working, however, it could still be tripping off when under load.

see the step attached. clean the s. sensor , and diagram attached.
God bless you
ERR1 indicates a speed issue. In this case, the motor speed as reported from the optic sensor differs
from the speed setting.
Analysis: Optic sensor signal issue -- Either the optic sensor signal is not right, or it is read incorrectly, or
the signal is not reaching the display.afb1d921-a008-4e96-876a-cd31ffa20ecf.gif

test the s.sensor for faulty, try to clean and tight the connector see the diagram attached.
2) test the terminal input for motor, if there are voltage the motor can be faulty. see my personal TIPS use the multimeter.
3) test the output control board, for input terminal motor, if there ARE NOT voltage for input voltage motor, the board is faulty, replace.

hi,
if you didn't lubricate the treadmill the try to do that first. if treadmills are not properly lubricated in time they will make noises and will cause problems for running belt and motor . check the video to know how to lubricate the treadmill.
