Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore refrigerator model 106.51552103. The icemaker is not working. I have checked the optical "ice full" switch and it seems to be working (hold the switch down, red light on steady). I have blown water thru the fill line from the valve so it is clear. It appears that the only thing left is the board in the icemaker. I want to know the best way to take the icemaker out of the freezer. The ice is dumped into the bin in the door so the icemaker is parallel with the front of the refrigerator. Thanks for your help.

Did you check your inlet valve? If your icemaker is not getting water than it cannot make ice. Rate me if i am right!

If the optics seem ok. you might need a new ice maker. If the coating on the mold is peeling you need a new icemaker. But if it is ok. You can change the module. To change the module remove the cover on icemaker front. Of course you must remove the icemaker first. then when you remove the cover you will see 3 screws remove them. and the module comes off. reverse the order to finish the job. hope this helps

Hello! I have a Kenmore refrigerator model #10656576400. It stopped making ice for a while but then started up again. Now it is leaking water and filling up the tray underneath the ice cube mold. Is it...

The first thing to check would be the water fill valve located usually on the back outside of the unit where the water line comes in, these can start leaking water slowy into the icemaker. The icemaker itself tells the valve how long tostay opened, that can be adjusted by a tech or you may need to replace the icemaker

Fridge won't make ice

There is an optics test procedure you can perform on your own to confirm what the repairman says. Assuming you have a whirlpool-made Kenmore (if you have a Pur water filter at the bttom left of your unit, you do), see here:

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/8527f904cc8ea8cd85256b5800672333/$FILE/4322658A.pdf

Basically, the icemaker won't initiate a harvest (dump) cycle unless the electric eye through that cutout at the top of your icemaker can see across the top of the dispenser. If the lens is dirty, or if either the emitter or receiver boards are bad, the optics won't connect. There's a simple diagnosis procedure in that pdf above. Since your fridge is from 2005 like mine, refer to the "post 2002 redesign" optics procedure. Basically the test is to open the fridge and look at the LED, then to close the flapper on the left wall of the freezer and see the change in LED behavior. This can confirm or deny an optics issue. Also, if you remove the little plastic grille at the bottom of your fridge, there'll be a piece of paper folded and stuffed in there with the diagnostic procedure in it as well. To do the full diagnostic procedure, you'll need to remove the icemaker and install a jumper, but to debug optics only, all you need to do is open the door, close the flapper, or maybe push in the door switch and look at how the LED responds.

Whirlpool icemaker

Your unit has infered sensors on the frezzer left and right walls. There is a diagnostic test sheet brown in color in your kick plate. All you have to do is open frezzer door look on the right sensor it should blink twice followed by a 1-2 sec delay,if that is good press in flapper door on right sensor do not block path of infered beam you will not see a beam its invisable.Once you hold in flapper on right sensor the led should be solid. If solid optics are good if not solid led replace optic sensors

Trouble with ice-maker

Either the inlet valve is stuck or the icemaker solenoid is shored.

Most likely the second one.

Ice Maker on/off switch has blinking red light, will not produce ice. Manual no help

When you open the freezer door the light should be blinking. When you hold the flipper door shut (on the left hand side) without blocking the beam, the light should stay on solid. If all of this happens then the optics are o.k. If optics are ok then you most likely have a broken motor module on the icemaker and should replace the icemaker thermostat along with it. A bad icemaker thermostat will lead to the module breaking. If you not sure how to replace these parts then I would just replace the whole icemaker. That would be easiest and usually not much more expensive.
