Um double check this set "WEP Encryption" 128 bit
set the "Key Type" to ASCII
type a 13 digit password into key 1 and click Apply

If it is still messing up start over and default the router. Update the firmware and try again. All else fails and no encryption keys will set.Change the name of your SSID and stop broadcasting the SSID or buy a new router maybe sounds like a software issue updating the firmware could correct though.

Does a D-Link DI-524 Router have User Password Protection? If so, How do I Initiate It? I have Several other Users Gobbling up My Gigabytes!

Hello,

All routers can be setup to have a secuirty password. For DLINK, go to http://192.168.0.1 and login using admin as user name and leave the password blank. Once you're in, go to the "Security" tab or option and click on WEP or WPA, select the encryption, choose a password and click save or apply.

I hope this helped you.
You can rate my answer if you appreciate my help.
Thanks!

Cant connect my laptop wirelessly...

Try to reconfigure your wireless network on your DI-524.

To access the configuration page of your router by Default type in on the address bar 192.168.0.1. On the login page by default the Username is admin and leave the Password blank.

If inside the the configuration page of the router

>Click Home
> Click on WIRELESS located on the left side and you will have the wireless setting of your network
> Change the wireless network name
> Under security choose either WEP or WPA -PSK for this type of router.
> Type in your new network key (also know as Passphrase of Key1).

For WEP use 0 to 9 Number or A to F character and it should be exactly 10 characters.
For WPA-PSK you can use alpha numeric from 0 to 9 and from A to Z. The minimun character would be 8.

> Click on apply
> Click on continue.
Try accessing your wireless network first using your wireless computer. If you are connected to your wireless network try connecting to the Internet.

Hi ladynb,

Open the DI-524 window by typing 192.168.0.1 into internet explorer address bar, and press enter.  Fill in your password, and press enter.  Click on the  Wireless button. This should open the Wireless Settings window for the 524.  Set SSID broadcast to  Enabled. Set Security to WEP.  Set Authentication to open system.  Set WEP Encryption to 64bit.   Set Type to HEX. Click and select radio button next to KEY1.  Enter a 10 digit number that you can remember, like 1234567890, or 1111122222.   Now click the Apply button at bottom of the screen.

Now any device that you wish to link  will will need to use this Key.   Scan for the router, connect and use Infrastructure mode, Type in the 10 digit number you were suppose to remember, and off you go.

WEP Encryption

It is recommended to enable encryption on your wireless router before your wireless network adapters. Please establish wireless connectivity before enabling encryption. Note: Your network will slow down and wireless signal may degrade when enabling encryption due to the added overhead. Step 1 Log into the web configuration of the router by opening up a web browser and typing in the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1). Step 2 Enter your username (admin) and your password (blank by default). Click OK . Click the Home tab and click the Wireless button on the left hand side of the screen. Step 3 Select Enable next to the WEP radio buttons. For WEP encryption select 64, 128, or 256-bit encryption. For the Key type select HEX. If you have an option for Authentication type, select Shared Key. Step 4 Select Key 1. Enter a Hex encryption key that you make up. The length of the encryption key will depend on what you selected under WEP Encryption. 64-bit encryption 10 characters 128-bit encryption 26 characters 256-bit encryption 58 characters (available on DI-614+ only) The encryption key is HEX, meaning 0-9 and A-F are valid characters. For example, A4583DFF1A (64-bit HEX key). Step 5 Click on the Apply button then click on the Continue button to save your settings. Note: If using non-D-Link adapters, please refer to the manufacturer´s documentation on enabling encryption.
