Since the Wi-Fi connection is working, the router seems to be fine. Do you get any message like "local area disconnected" when you try to connect through ethernet? Have you checked with another ethernet cable?

Waiting clarification, don't hesitate to post.

Thanks and regards

here you have instructions about how to configure it ..in detail ..
one thing is not specified if you have a dsl connection with a dsl modem ...you have to change the Ip of the router ..and the Ip range that it will assign to the ports ..for to not get in conflict with the modem that has the same IP address from factory ..
ask me if you do not understand the procedure..

hmm..you have to follow the procedure and configure the router first ..
connect the router to the power..and turn it on ..
than put a cable to one of the ports and than connect to the Lan card of one of the computer ..
insert the internet cable in the router in the WLan port (the one that stands alone ) ..
in this moment you have to type in the browser (internet explorer's address bar ) the address (IP ) of the router ..as follows.HTTP://192.168.1.1 and hit enter ..(if the router has another IP address it is written on the back ) ..
in this moment a window with user and password will appear.. for this model the user is +admin and the password is also admin..put them in the cases and enter for to go to set up..
in here you have to configure first the Wlan .. If you have a static ip address on internet connection select so ..and insert the Ip numbers like you used to put them into the computer lan card..and than click ok to save ,
For a non static Ip ..just click the obtain an IP address automatically ..
after completing these steps..you should have internet on the router .. the next step is to go to the computer's Lan card and select to get an IP address automatically ..
If it do not appear to work ..you should click in the card to the user configured..(advanced into teh obtain a IP addres automatically ) ..and configure it like it follows..
the IP address will be the router's Ip +1 in the tail for the first port ..and so on ..for example ..
    192 168 1 2
the sub-net mask will be 255.255.255.0
the default gateway .will be in this case the router's Ip address cause the router plays the role of teh default gateway ..
and the servers are the same like the ones from your provider..but in case you have a modem and than the modem became the server
in this moment if you followed my instructions and the ones from the link I provided you have internet on the computer via the router ..
all you have to do is go back to the set up page of the router (the one in the browser) ..and go to the next step ..the wifi ..and enable it ...assign a channel from 1 to 12..better in the middle ..and set a name and a password for the network ..but this is not necessary cause it works without as well..but it needs to be enabled..
if you u have any difficulties please let me know exactly what you are trying and what is wrong ..so that I can assist ..

OK ..so it is defective ?? or what ..the idea is that from wireless connection ..unless you can access the Ip address of the router to get into its settings you can not do much ..
Im not sure I understand why can not connect to a port and set it like it supposed to ...
anyway ..if the wireless connection can connect to it ..via the browser and by adding its ip address into the browser like I said previously ...you can than get to its settings ..and make the wlan connections (insert the tcp/ip protocol )...and this way you connect it to the internet..if the ports will not work ..at least you will be able to use the wi fi ..
anyway ..if it is nopt new..and you do not know its passwords and such ..just reset it ..and it will be to the factory setting s..will have the passwords I mentioned(admin & admin )..and the Ip address that it is written on the back ..(probably 192.168.1.1)..
and Im more than sure that after that will connect to a port ..
the reset button it is hidden into a hole near the power supply ..plug ...and has to be powered and on when you reset it ...Just press that hidden button for 30 seconds with a ballpoint pen ..after that try to make the settings like it should ..

your mean that i cannot use Lan ports any more?
i need those for other devices

  • Catalin Turcu
    Catalin Turcu Aug 26, 2010

I never said to not use them ..I just assumed they are corrupted caus you kept telling me that they do not work ...and this is impossible as long you do not listen for what Im saying and do not connect one like i say to make the configurations ...You have to understand that the router need to be configured and the lan ports are not to be lit unless they have connection ..until than you have to connect one just to get to router's configuration page from browser by typing in the router address and the Http:// in front like I said so many times..and like I showed you in that link about how to configure..
All the time you kept telling me thay do not work ..and I assumed they are damaged.., but now I realized that you never understood how it works and didnt tried to read what I sent you ..If you do not read that ..and do not make it like I explained..you will never make it work ...cause this is not a..plug and play device ..It requires complicated configurations ..and I explained to you 3 times the procedure..
You probably assumed that if you plug into lan port and plug the router to wlan with the internet cable ..you have connection ..but it is not like that ...you have to configure via one of the ports ..the connection wlan to the internet of the router ..than to configure the computer lan card to connect to the router via one of the ports..and after that you will have internet on ports..and after that you get to the wireless configuration into the same setting page and enable wireless connection ..and set a channel ..and the security .. (which is located inside the router and can get to it ..by typing the IP address into the address bar of the browser like I explained)

  • Catalin Turcu
    Catalin Turcu Aug 27, 2010

you can not connect it ..but you can get to the router's settings ..this is the way it is supposed to do ..you actually seek the router by the browser by typing its address in the internet explorer's address bar ..if your router address is 192 168 1.1 than you connect the router to power..and the computer in port no 1..and type in the address bar of the browser the address like this .HTTP://192/168.1.1 and hit enter ..
no matter that the computer or the router is not connected..it will find the device by internal IP address..and will show the setting page ..
why is so hard for you to accept that this is the way to do it ..and just try it like I say ??the issue is that the IP address of teh router may be other ..or ma be changed ..thi sis why I said to reset ..and use the address that it is written on the back side of teh router ..
if you follow this steps..you will end up to te setting page ..where you have to insert the user and the password..and like I said the factory ones are ..user---admin
    password--- admis..
and hit enter again ..and you are in ..and ready to start setting it ..
I repeat ..this is not a connection ..but just a way to enter inside the router via its address ..
Once in you have to configure the Wlan ..just like a regular TCP/IP protocol ..after case static or automatic IP ..and assign a range of IP'es for the ports..(best to be from 192.168.1.2 up to 192.168.1.10 so that the router to have from where to choose and assign the IP to the ports.. if you save these settings you have internet in the wlan port ..
after that all you have is to connect the computers one by one ..and either manually configure the TCP/IP protocol or choose to assign automatically an IP address..
and go to wireless configuration ..where it is enough to enable i t...choose a channel ..and if you prefer insert the security password..and configure it ..
I repeat ..even if you do not see the logic in this ...try like I say ..and pay attention to the right address of the router and insert it like I said with http:// in front ..and you will be surprised..
I already spent a lot of time ..and I would like to at least be given the presumption that I now what Im talking here

My laptop works using my Belkin router, but my desktop will not connect to the internet

hello

your notebook has WiFi, which is radio frequency internet, it transmits and receives radio signals (frequencies) . Your desktop, most likely, does not support WiFi on its own , so you need to use RG45 cable , ethernet cable to be connected from your desktop to the router.
lan-cable-rg45-cat5e-cat6-utp-ftp-acr2101-.jpg

So in other words thsi is what happens with your notebook and the router.
  1. your notebook has built in wireless adapter which translates data into a radio signal and transmits it using an antenna.
  2. A wireless router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet using a physical, wired Ethernet connection, to your modem (supplied by your Internet Service Provider)
The process also works in reverse, with the router receiving information from the Internet, translating it into a radio signal and sending it to the computer's wireless adapter.

The radios used for WiFi communication are very similar to the radios used for walkie-talkies, cell phones and other devices.

you need to connect your desktop to the router via RG45 ethernet cable.

I think there are 6 ways (at least?) to connect this printer:
(1) Direct to Mac (or PC) via USB Cable (2) Direct to Mac (or PC) via Ethernet Crossover Cable(3) Ethernet to router/switch, with Mac/PC also via Ethernet to router/switch(4) Ethernet to router/switch, with Mac/PC via WiFi (802.11 wireless)(5) WiFi to router, with Mac/PC via Ethernet to router/switch(6) WiFi to router, with Mac/PC also via WiFi.
As (1) should be simplest, tried this first. First document would print instantly and completely, next doc would hang in queue with unexpected msg, "Printer is offline." Only way to print 2nd doc was to power cycle (off-on) the printer. This problem occurred whether 2nd doc was sent to printer before or after 1st doc had printed. Tried 2nd USB cable, tried new driver, tried reinstalling printer; same problem. Spoke to both Samsung and Apple support, including both on a conference call; never got this to work and never clarified if problem was in printer hardware/software, driver, or something else. Both companies now showing this issue as unresolved.
Nothwithstanding USB problem, did succeed in modes (4) and (6), although custom wireless config needed since my network does not broadcast SSID and requires an encryption password. Procedure required connecting first via Ethernet, obtaining Configuration Report by holding down orange button for 5 seconds, then using browser to connect to the printer's IP address. Also required different driver for wireless config (as opposed to USB).
Bottom line: What seemed simple - USB direct connect - proved unworkable, but wired and wireless network config works fine.

My web browser is not working. i cant acces the internet

make sure your ethernet cable (RG45 , looks like , bigger version of telephone cable) is plugged into your (ethernet) port of the computer and the other end of the cabel must be conncted to the modem or router). make sure the router has power and the modem has power, both turned on .
Are the lights on the modem or router lit up ?
the modem must be attached to the router via anolther RG45 ethernet cable. The modem must be conncted to a main signal cable or ethernet jack from your wall outlet or plug

let me know if this helps -- otherwise get in conbtact with your internet service provider

So I have a little problem. I'm trying to find out how to connect 2 wireless routers together from across the house. The internet side is connected to a Linksys wireless router (WRT54G). This is located in...

you need a wireless ethernet bridge(like wet54g/wet610n) which will grab signals wirelessly from u're primary router wrt54g,& then a ethernet cable from wireless bridge will be connected to one of the lan port of u'rs netgear router(otherwise u will not be able to do file & printer sharing between 2 routers)Remember, the ip address of all 3 devices shold be of same class.

Trying ti install my dsl-2640b wireless g adsl2+modem router

If you have plugged the ethernet cable directly into the motherboard, make sure the onboard lan is enabled in the bios, if you have plugged into a pci nic adapter you will have to install a driver for it, winxp should have the driver for your adapter other than that I cannot help any further.

best of luck

Ethernet network adapter not working on T20

Also , not all IBM T20/T21 laptops shipped with a ethernet card fitted.
some had a modem only card. some a combined modem/ethernet card.

if the tiny LEDs light when plugged into a known active network connection then the card is present.
if they dont light up then it probably isnt present.

to check for the card..remove the panel secured by a single screw (just above center of the base)
the panel is in the top right quadrant of the bottom of the PC if you look at the bottom with the power connector at the top and the battery at the bottom.

remove the screw. open the panel.
there may or may not be a card present.
if there is if there is only a single white connector (with 2 small wires) then it is the Modem only card.
if there are 2 connectors one with 2 wires and another bigger with 8 wires..then you have the network card. check the connectors a fully pushed home.
its fiddly good luck
