Plz try by reinstalling the drivers,if the problem is not solved then scan you pc with a updated antiviruse software.if the problem is there then change the usb cable and try with another usb slot.
If problem is not solved then plz try in another system. if problem is not occuring in the other system then your operating system is having problem otherwise your printer needs servicing

I tried to print a document from internet, there is a message on my monitor telling me that J4680 is printing, but the hardware (printer) is not doing anything. I did run the Self-Test and the printer...

go to the printer page right click on the printer icon that shows the name of your printer
and select as default porinter
if there is any docements in the que try and cancel the documents and see if it gets deleted
again select teh printer as online
and go to the properties page and try to print a test page from teh printer and it should print
and if it does not print disconnect and reconnect teh USB cable from the back of the printer
and try again to print a test page from the printer and this should resolved the problem and still if nothing happens let us know the status and we will help you further with the issue .
BEST OF LUCK

thanks
regards
Hamid

Ip1800 collecting printer status

The printer is trying to collect data of it's status. Meaning its trying to get info on the ink andso on. Make sure your ink is installed and everything is hooked up correctly. Wait a few minutes before trying to use it. If it still says collecting printer status wait a few minutes.

Status Monitor informs of Ink levels requiring me to press resume button during and after each print job.

What it means is the tank to collect waste ink (from cleaning etc) is full.
Canon suggest you return ther printer for replacement of the absorbant mat, suggest you scour the web for DIY cures.
