My name is Mike. A couple times a day I go looking around to give some pointers to our clients (you).

Look at it your question from our point of view, power to what, what is it in. We need a little more info.

More is better:

If you are serious about getting an answer, include Make, Model of the product that's misbehaving, what type of product it is and make, model of the computer you are using it on.

Describe your problem clearly, concisely and with as much detail as possible.

Often, a problem can be the result of a seemingly unrelated event. It is always a good idea to include a recent history.

Additional information such as what steps have already been taken, has the product ever worked, is it new, etc. can have a bearing on providing the best solution for your particular circumstances.

Remember, you are a key participant in this process. We are not there, you are. We depend on you to be our eyes and ears. We can only respond to what you provide us. Without you, all our talent is worthless. How's that for an ego build?

It would be also be advantageous in your case to repost your problem so that it is correctly categorized and starts over at the top of the queue. This way it can be directed to someone with expertise in the area you need. They may have the manual memorized. Who knows?

Best regards

Mike

Unable to detect or use my cd rom

Is this in a desktop or laptop? I will assume it is in a desktop

This could be caused by the jumper setting on the CD ROM is the same as another drive in the PC.

It could also be a loose or damaged IDE cable / power cable to the CD ROM.

Open the case of the PC and verify the IDE and power cable are securely in the back of the drive and the IDE cable is securely in the motherboard port.

If there is a 2nd device connected to the same IDE cable, verify one is set to MASTER and the other is set to SLAVE. Cable Select (CS) setting can fail - placing both devices as MASTER/SLAVE will eliminate a failed CS logic.

If this is in a laptop, turn the comptuer off and remove the battery and AC power. Remove the CD ROM (if the unit can be swapped) and re-insert the drive back in the laptop. Reboot the laptop with the drive in the laptop and test.

I have brought a new computer that dosnt have a cd rom. I have tried putting in two different cd-roms but they wont show up on my computer. i have tried downloading drivers to help but it still wont work.

Hello !

Your CD-ROM should have at least two cables connected to it: a power cable and IDE cable that should also be connected to your motherboard. Disconnect and reconnect the cables and be certain that they are snug.

Some computers will also have a small third cable used to interface the CD-ROM with the sound card. If the audio for your CD audio CDs is not working properly verify that this cable is not disconnected from the back of the CD-ROM.

Hope this helps.

No matter what i do cd rom not detecting

check whether the powe plug has been inserted properly and the power plug is working fine. Even though if the power plug inserted is working fine and CD ROM not detecting means CD ROM was damaged.

The CD ROM Drive is not ejecting properly

hi,
Locking device / software installed
First, verify no locking software is being loaded, which would allow the CD-ROM tray not to open. If you are unable to determine this, reboot the computer and as it is booting up, attempt to eject the tray. No power to computer or CD-ROM drive
If you have recently installed a new CD-ROM drive or you have moved the computer, it is possible that the power to the CD-ROM may have become loose or disconnected. Check the cable connections. Bad eject button
If you are running Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows ME, or Windows XP, open My computer, right-click on the CD-ROM drive and choose the option to eject. If this ejects your CD-ROM drive tray, it is likely that the button on the CD-ROM drive has become defective and it is recommended that the drive be replaced. CD stuck within drive
It is possible that a CD may have become stuck within the CD-ROM drive. If the CD-ROM drive has a small hole (that is not the head phone jack), using a paper clip, place the paper clip within the hole and attempt to manually eject the CD-ROM tray. If the CD-ROM drive is only partially able to be opened, attempt to pull the tray gently to see if it can be manually ejected. If it cannot be opened any further, it is likely that the gears within the CD-ROM drive have become bad, dislodged, or that a CD is positioned in the drive, which does not allow it to open. Incompatibility with IDE / ATAPI interface
If you have an IBM compatible computer and recently installed the CD-ROM drive and are unable to open the drive, attempt to temporarily disconnect the IDE cable to verify that you not experiencing an issue with an incompatibility between the CD-ROM and motherboard. Once the IDE cable has been disconnected, power on the computer and see if the CD-ROM drive tray is now able to be opened. If the drive is able to be opened with the IDE / ATAPI cable disconnected, it is recommended you use the interface card supplied with the CD-ROM drive or the ATAPI interface on the sound card / motherboard. Bad drive
Unfortunately, if after following the above recommendations you are still unable to properly open the CD-ROM drive using the button on the front of the CD-ROM drive, it is likely defective and should be replaced. Caution: If you are able to open the CD-ROM drive using a paper clip. We do not recommend that you continue using the CD-ROM drive by manually ejecting the CD-ROM using a paper clip. The drive should be replaced and this is not meant to be used as a temporary solution. Additional information and tips for buying a new CD-ROM drive can be found on our CD-ROM buying tips section.

CD/DVD ROM disappears

I would think either your IDE cable is faulty or the IDE connector on the motherboard, try swapping cables or use a double IDE cable on IDE 1 connector. You may have a faulty drive ide connection input in which case a new DVD Rom is the answer, only cheap nowadays.
