Only on the sites that deal in second-hand or for parts items, like Craigslist. But you should try to straighten the pins before messing with a unit that wasn't designed to be opened - use a big syringe needle, slide it over the bent pins and very slowly straighten them.

This seems to happen when it's been connected to another computer. Are you running FreeAgent Sync? If so force a sync and the read only problem should go away.

Reduced Hard Drive Capacity with Internal to External Kit

Problem can be tricky.. though i offer my two cents.

1. some BIOS have upper limit of hard disk capacity. check that out. try connecting IDE device to IDE connector in same comp and see if it is being detected properly.

2. seagate guys are true .. IDE to usb conversion can be tricky ... a lot depends on card convertor.

my advice would be if you have precious data on it ... first take a backup of it, if possible connecting the disk to nomal ide connector.

Need a power cable

A user on the Seagate forums indicates that his uses a 12V 2A DC power supply. I would suggest, however, that you remove the hard drive from that enclosure and place the drive either inside your PC or inside another enclosure.

If all else fails, contact Seagate: 1-800-SEAGATE

Let me know if this helps!
