Question about Whirlpool AD50USS Dehumidifier

2 Answers

I've had the dehumidifier since Sept. 2006 and worked fine until recently I noticed more noise and discovered that it was frozen up. I turn it off to clear the ice, but now it freezes up in about three or four hours. It's located in the basement and the temp. is about 70 degrees.

I have had a dehumidifier Whirlpool model AD50USS2 for less than one year and it won't pull any moisture from the air. Tried cleaning filter but did not work.

Pause light is constantly flashing

Pause is not a term ive seen on a dehumidifier , but one would assume that its waiting for something to occur in that mode , and with these the only logicial reason to wait is to "wait" for Moisture to return to room , maybe your room has been voided of %rh to the setting on unit and its waiting for more water to return ??

Haier 45-pint dehumidifier unit cannot be turned on. It has been running fine last few days.

The first thing that comes to mind, is have you emptied the water collection bucket recently? If so, be sure that the bucket was properly reinstalled and is making contact with the bucket safety removal switch.

If you haven't emptied the bucket in the past few days, it may simply be full and will not start until it's emptied.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Our Friedrich D50C humidifier is six years old. Worked great until a week ago it seems to turn on- then an unordinary noise occurs and moisture is not pulled out.

There are many reasons why a dehumidifier willnot work or collect water.
Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrongwith their dehumidifier

I have had the Whirlpool GOld dehumidifier for 4 years. It was working great. Recently, I noticed that it stopped working. When plugged it, it trips my GFI socket. I have tried various outlets and checked...

Obviously, there is an electrical short within the unit. Should it be repaired? Yes, if you want continue using it. But, is the cost of troubleshooting, finding the necessary part and repairing it worth it? Most of the time, the cost to repair a dehumidifier is about the same, as what a new one would cost. Now, if purchased an extended warranty, when you originally bought the unit 4 years ago, then you're probably covered for the repair.

In the end, the decision is yours to make.

It will not run.It cuts on then cuts off. There is plenty of moisture in the air, so it's not the lack of humidity. Any help would be appreciated

Yes, you're right. There's probably enough humidity. But, the level that you have the dehumidifier set on is to high. Please understand, the percentage on the LCD screen is what the humidifier is the humidity that it will maintain, not what it will remove. If it's set on say, 65% or higher, it's not going to remove anything. That's why it turns ON and then OFF. It needs to be set lower than 50%. Probably more like 45%, then when it turns ON, it will continue to run until the humidity level reaches 45% or the unit shuts OFF, because the bucket is full.

I had a previous questioner recently, who after reading what I just told you, said, "Now, I've got it. It works opposite of a refrigerator?" Which is a perfect analogy.

Let me know if it works for you. Thanks.

Year 2005 cycling fan and compressor

Your unit is probably operating in defrost mode. When you use a dehumidifier in a cold room, the condensing coils can freeze water. The unit senses this and thus stops the compressor until the water frozen on the coils melts. Then it resumes its cycle. This is a problem you will have during the winter months. It makes the operation of the unit inefficient, but this is otherwise normal behavior.

DH30 Dehumidifier Compressor Does not Operate

I just picked one up at a tag sale, seller said it worked sometimes. Seems to have the same problem as yours. I took the time to tweak all of the connections and then re-soldered the control board with no luck. I finally disconnected the humidity control and it worked fine. By disconnecting the humidity control the unit defaults to it's highest setting and you have to unplug the unit to turn it off. Conclusion so far is that the humidity control rheostat is bad.
Note: Now while running the fan runs continuously and the compressor cycles on and off every 10 to 15 minutes. This may to be normal since the unit appears to be doing its job and I'm not sure how it is supposed to run since a purchased it broken.
