Question about Onkyo TX-SR605 Receiver

Tuner Omits No Sound - Onkyo TX-SR605 7.1 Channels Receiver

Dear Tech Experts,

I've had an Onkyo TX-SR605 7.1 Channels Receiver since Christmas (Professionally installed with a home theatre system) and the tuner / Radio has stopped omitting any sound. All the stations / functions relating to the Tuner work fine, and I can still listen / watch films on DVD perfectly, there's just no sound on the Tuner?

I'm hoping I've overlooked something very simple, the Tuner has been working fine up until now, does the tuner perhaps have a cable that may have fallen out the back?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Kass

Make sure your receiver is hooked up to proper AM and FM antennae. Try switching to AM, scan stations. If you hear AM static and/or weak signals the problem could be antennas are not hooked up. FM has AFT which blocks out weak or noisey stations and you wont hear anything without ant.

Wire Kenwood GE 7030 equilizer to onkyo tx sr504 receiver

For all practical purposes an EQ or any analog audio processor connects exactly like a Tape Deck - into any RCA pairing that has both an OUT and an IN and can be selected to be in or out of the audio path.

However, on this and just about any modern digital-capable AV Receiver, activation of any external loop that would connect a processor or tape deck would automatically DISable any digital audio sources. The effects of the processor, therefore, can only be used with analog stereo sources. It WILL affect the sound going to all speakers if you use the various Digital Sound Porcessing modes as the extra channels are derived from the stereo channels anyway.

I have an ONKYO TX-SR606 receiver and I am trying to listen to FM radio using more than just the center channels. I have gone through the setup screens for the tuner and only Analog choices are available....

Hello,
In reality the correct way to listen to radio or any music source for that matter is in 2 channel stereo. What this means is that the front left and right will play and also the subwoofer. If you absolutely want all your speakers to play while listening to fm, than press the Multi channel button and set it to direct, or any other sound field that you may desire.
Good Luck

Onkyo tx-sr702 sound cuts out when pausing, then starting a recording on DVR or changing HDTV channel

That would be a function of your Cable/DVR dropping its digital bitstream output, wouldn't it?

My Pioneer does the same thing when I switch channels on my cable box or ANY sources. The receiver has to resync with the new bitstream, buffer it, figure it out and sort out the audio channels. Sounds like normal operation to me.

My Onkyo TX-SR500 receiver stays in standy/on mode.

It may be your amplifier protection circuitry is being activated and shutting down automatically. This is usually caused by a faulty output transistor in one or more of the channels. I recently repaired my Onkyo TX-SR500 which had this problem.
Using a multimeter on ohms check between C and E on each of the ten output transistors. I found Q6051 and Q6061 to be short cct on all pins. Once you have located the faulty channels check the adjacent components for open or short cct.

I replaced the following components,
Q6051 (2SD1047)
Q6061 (2SB817)
R6091 (2.2ohm fusible)
R6081 (2.2ohm fusible)
R6101 2x 0.22ohm 2W
Q6031 (2SD2061)

The amplifier now works perfectly, cost of the parts is about $15-$20.
If you don't feel confident doing this yourself just find a friend or tech who can do it for you.

I just read over the problem you were having with your Onkyo TX-SR500 receiver. It sound like the unit needs to be setup for all five channels.Sence your symptom says the diplay shows Dolby D3/2.1. According to the owners manual with the remote control look for speaker setup whin the button is pressed the current speaker setup will be shown in the display. Press the preset/adjustment<> to change the current setting to five speakers. the listening mode will automatically change according to the number of channels you selected. Hope this helps.
