Question about Canon EOS-5D 12.8 Megapixel SLR Digital Camera w/ EF 24-70mm Zoom Telephoto EF 70-200mm f/ Autofocus L

1 Answer

I am using Canon EOS 5D. I was taking pictures of the sunset this evening, then the mirror inside the camera dropped out inside. I opened the camera and saw the little mirror (I don't know what it's called) was not in the position it's supposed to be. I guess the glue between it and the camera didn't work, so the mirror can stick to the camera. Please help me! What can I do now? I can't afford to fix it at this time, and I don't know if it's a serious problem.

Has the mirror actually fallen off from the frame or is it that it is misaligned? Both, by themselves, are not serious problems. You do not need to pay much for fixing it. If the camera is not under warranty, you can get it fixed by a local (reliable) service guy. If it is under warranty, better get it fixed by an authorized service center.

A word of caution though--after the mirror is fixed, it would be a good idea to get the sensor cleaned by an expert. This is because if the mirror gets misaligned, it can, in some cases, touch the rear element of the lens and thus leave some dust in the camera.

I have just checked Canon website, and I found out that the main mirror fell out while taking pictures is one of the manufacture problem. Thus, they will fix it with no charge. Regarding to your advice, I didn't move or touch the mirror. I was taking pictures, and it occurred. I believe my problem is what Canon mentions about.

Do you know by chance how much would it cost to get the sensor cleaned? I don't know if I can afford it or not.

Thank you very much for your advice. I appreciate your time.

If Canon is servicing the camera, they will clean the sensor also. So don't worry about additional cost. For your information, Canon and Nikon usually set up free service camps (cleaning and all) in various photography expos and such events. The services vary from place to place. Anyway, good to hear that you will not have to spend on the mirror fixation. Normally manufacturers charge much even for a small job.

My 5d mark 11 camera screen appears error20 and it wont remove

Hi

Error code 20 on a Canon EOS 5D Mark II indicates there is a hardware problem with either the mirror or the shutter. The only solution is to have it repaired - or if the camera is reasonably new take it back to your supplier and get your money back.

Hope this helps

Try and fit Canon EFS Lens to EOS 5D Body

As far as I know, you should use L series Lens to fit Full Frame Canon Camera (5D & 1D).

That would be no adapter, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Help with Canon EOS 5D camera

when you use the full auto mode, the body take jpeg images in sRGB mode. And it create a different folder for those, but perhaps your computer is tune to get THIS folder. So when you leave the full auto mode, the 5D create a second folder for new images. Try to open directly the 5d volume on your computer (in windows, configuration panel, on a mac, it mount automatically on desktop) and go into DCIM folder. see? there is two folders, aleluia.

The camera has no built in memory, like all DSLR's. If you shot pictures without a card, the pictures were not saved.
