I followed the setup guide provide by EnGenius to no avail. I tried your suggestion of powering off both the router and extender for 30 secs. Still says unsuccessful connection!

I tried using my laptop to connect...got the same response unsuccesful connect to the 2wire254.
Do you think it might be a compatibility problem between the EnGenius ERB9250 and the AT

I discovered what the problem was. I had failed to set the WEP security correctly. The unit is now functioning as it should.

Try to verify it on another computer (friend's laptop, etc.). If it works then, you'll know you have a software conflict or problem on your computer. Otherwise, you'll have to go in to Network Connections and see if it's recognized, etc. There's really no way one can troubleshoot extenders, other than trying them on more than one machine, and eliminating them by that method. I do know that on some hardware, you have to install the CD first, before you connect the hardware, or it just won't work. That might require uninstalling it, and redoing the process.
Anyway, good luck, and hope this helps.

In configuring the range extender to work with your wireless router make sure that you have all the wireless settings of your router because you need to input it to your extender settings, then once you're done with that power off the router and the extender for about 30 seconds to sync them and then check if its working fine now.

It seems that this is a compatibility issue between the router and the extender that you have since you have all the correct settings on both of them, but just to make sure do a firmware upgrade on your router and if still wont work the 2 device are not compatible.

You don't need a disk. You can set it up from your web browser, something like http://192.168.1.2/

Unable to enter the extender's setup (configuration) pages anymore. Tried resetting the extender; repairing the local area connection; tried accessing the extender through its ethernet port....

How to reset the device?
Locate the reset button next to the CAT5 (RJ45) connection. Press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds and then let go. You should see your 10/100 LAN connection at your computer go away and then come back. That will confirm a reset has occurred. The unit settings should all be back to default including its IP address of 192.168.1.1.

Is it possible to set up the Engenius 300Mbps Wireless N Range Extender with an AT&T 2wire 3800HGV-B wireless router/modem? Router does not have a WPS button.

Yes you can. The button is in the software. goto http://192.168.1.254 or whatever the URL for the modem. Login. Goto Home-->Wireless--> Push WPS Button Remotely and push the button. I don't know if you need to have the repeater nearby when you do this. I had mine sitting right next to my router.

the IP address must be different on the router & extender but use the same subnet mast. The extender has to have the gateway set as the IP address on the router.
