Are you saying it will not communicate when the flash is in the hot shoe? If so then clean the connector on the flash and camera. Make sure you have pushed the flash all the way on to the hot shoe then turn the lock. Does the flash work on other cameras? If so it is not the flash. Will other flash work on the camera if so it is the flash. The other question is are you talking about not communicating using CLS? If so that is another issue most often solved by reading the manual making sure all the settings are correct and matching.

How do I fix my Nikon D80? It is flashing F-- and will not take pictures.

What lens do you have on the camera? The F-- indicates that the camera is unable to communicate with the lens. If the lens has the electronics to communicate with the camera, try cleaning the contacts on the back of the lens and on the camera body. If the lens is a manual lens, set the camera to the Manual exposure mode (turn the mode dial to "M").

My d80 keeps flashing the f whats wrong with it

On my D-90 "F--" indicates that the lens is not communicating with the camera body. It could be because of dirty contacts or another problem. One solution that has been effective for others is to hold the lenses release button down and rotate the lens in place 10 or more times as a way to clean the contacts.

If that doesn't work, try contacting Nikon tech support at www.nikon.com to see what they may suggest.

Vivitar 84mm 1.4 aspherical on Nikon D80

If you mean the 85mm, it's not an autofocus lens. Nor does it have the electronics to communicate with the camera. You need to set the camera to manual exposure mode (turn the mode dial to M) and set the exposure manually. Set the shutter speed by turning the command dial on the back of the camera and the aperture by turning the aperture ring on the lens.

Again, this is a manual lens. No auto-anything. But it's a nice fast lens, with shallow depth of field when you want it.

Won't take pictures. It's not the battery, nor the memory stick. When I push to take a picture, "F- - " comes up....

Hello, your camera has broken the minimum aperture coupling, it interrupts the communication and can not detect the lens opening.
If the lens is an AF-S DX lens is wrong CPU.

Best regards

I need to find out how to use a 650 1300 telephoto lens on my Nikon D80. I can get the shutter to release but nothing is in the preview.

The 650-1300 lens does not have the electronics to communicate with the camera. You have to use it in the Manual exposure mode, without any help from the camera's light meter.

The D80 doesn't have the LiveView capability, which lets you use the LDC monitor instead of the viewfinder for framing your pictures. This has nothing to do with the lens. Nikon introduced this capability with the D3 and D300, which came out after the D80.

My Nikon d80 shows the msg as card is locked, how ever i tried to solve the problem by sliding it to write position. Can someone can help me rite now?

Here is a diagram to show the correct position of the switch.

Good big picture and it doesn't matter that it has Canon written on the SD card in the picture the SD card is interchangeable between the two makes.

Now one other thing that may also be the problem is that the SD card needs to be formatted to the camera. Formatting should be done on new memory cards and after you have downloaded pictures to the computer. That's format not delete, delete leaves a mess on the card Formatting cleans the card and provides proper communications between the camera and the memory card

The "fEE" error indicates that the camera is not communicating with the lens. The lens may not be attached to the camera properly, or if it has an aperture ring, it may not be set to f22 (or the highest aperture number of the lens) - which is normally marked in orange. Select this aperture and lock it using the aperture locking switch to prevent this from occuring again.
