I have a three prong plug washer/dryer but a 4 prong outlet need an adapter

YOU DONT ADAPT IT, U REPLACE THE RECEPTACLE OR USE THE CORRECT PRONG CORD. THE CORDS ARE NOT THAT EXPENSIVE FROM 20 TO 30 BUCKS AND EVEN CHEAPER ON LINE. IF U HAVE A NEWER HOME IT IS MANDATED BY LAW THAT YOU USE 4 PRONG CORD NOT 3 PRONG UNLESS THE HOME CAME WITH A 3 PRONG OUTLET.

I just bought a frigadaire affinity dryer. Well my plug is a standard plug. Is there any where I can find a plug to have it fight my outlet?

Dryers in the US come in 2 varieties.
A 3 prong and a 4 prong plug.
The 3 prong is older, the 4 prong newer. (The 4 has been made about 10 years)
A hardware store or an appliance store will sell both cords.
If you wish to order it online, you can buy one off of e-bay.
The cords can be switched back and forth from machine to machine.
To find out how, ask "fixya" after you buy the cord that fits your outlet. Be blessed.

Just moved, the dryer has a 4 prong plug and house has 3. Should it replace plug to dryer to 3 prong or house plug?

Buy a 3 wire cord and install it on the dryer. Hang onto the 4 wire one in case you move again.

Longer cord/age of washer & dryer

Is your dryer electric with the big plug.
If so, what kind of changes are you making?
The dryer needs to be by the vent outlet so you can't move it far unless you are going to cut a new venting outlet.
If it is electric (not gas) then do not try to extend the cord. Have a licensed electrician move the electrical jack.
The cord has a large amount of current running through it and the longer the cord, the more resistance the current has to flow through. More resistance means more heating of the cord and less voltage for your dryer. This can result in the cord overheating to the point of melting and starting a fire itself or getting hot enough to ignite the very fine and very dry lint particles that are present in any laundry room.

This is a situation where you spend the money and have it done professionally because of the danger of fire, death, etc.

Good Luck!

I was switching the electrical cord from a 3 prong to a 4 prong and grounded a hot wire. there was a big pop and now i cant get it to start. would i have blown it up?

WHy are you switching the cord from a 3 to a 4? If the dryer came with a 3 prong cord and its a 3 prong terminal block, then i dont think you can change it to a 4 becuase you will short circuit. DOes the terminal block where your cord was hooked up have 4 terminals. Each termial can only have one lead/wire to it. check your circiut breaker panel? Is the circiut breaker tripped?

Change fr 3 prongs to 4

They wire in the same except the green wire will go to a ground screw which should be right in the same area with a green color to it. If no ground screw, hook the green together with the white (center) wire. Hope this helps!
