Hi. Sorry to rate it as not helpful as I'm sure your knowledge is great and I so appreciate your taking the time to answer.

It's a new computer (well, a couple months old now), but it's been doing this from the beginning. Presently, the battery is charged, no virus and touchpad is clean -- I did this all at your suggestion.

I don't know whether Dell's just do this, it's to do with Windows 7, it's a faulty computer, or is there some software I could download to run the touchpad better than what came with it. I have updated my drivers, by the way.

    Thank you so much.

Cursor problem

Disabling the touchpad on a Dell Inspiron can be useful when typing for long periods of time, or using an external mouse. Bumping or tapping the touchpad while typing can cause cursor jumping and unwanted results. Use the touchpad software to enable or disable touchpad controls. Download the driver for your touchpad at the Dell Support website.

Click on the "Touchpad" icon in the task bar. If the icon doesn't appear, you can download and install the driver for the touchpad from the Dell website, or choose "Start" and "Control Panel." Choose "Device Select" on the touchpad menu, or choose "Mouse" in the "Control Panel" menu and "Device Select." Click "Disable" under "Touchpad" to turn off the touchpad, or click "Disable Touchpad/Pointing Stick When a USB Mouse is Connected."

My dell vostro 1520 touchpad freezes ocassionally

right click computer, go to properties, device manager, right click on synaptics pointing device, and go to uninstall (don't worry the drivers are loaded on your hard drive) reboot the system after you remove the touchpad *plug in an external mouse for this part or just press and hold power once the system is restarted you will see the drivers reload automatically if the problem continues then you may need the touch pad replaced. if you are out of warranty with this system a replacement palmrest and touch pad can be ordered pretty cheaply off of ebay you'll just have to get a tech to put it on for you.

Intermittantly the curser freezes then erratically moves around the screen by itself. I am unable to move or 'control' the curser so find it difficult to shut down to do a re-start. I usually have to hold...

Make sure that you are not placing the hand on the touchpad while typing.... This might be due to the drivers issue with the touchpad.. Try to unistall the drivers of touchpad from the device manager.. Then install a fresh copy from the dell website(www.support.acer.com).. If the issue is yet to be fixed please contact Acer to replace the touchpad....

Sometimes the dell inspiron 1525 touchpad works ok (never like it should) and other times it won't move. It freezes up and just won't move. I waste so much time trying to get that arrow to move around...

You will need to go to www.support.dell.com there you will have to download the corect drivers from the touchpad,as it would seem that you have a driver problem. If not you might have to replace the palmrest.
Good Luck

My Latitude D610 power flicks on off on off The

In my opinion, it sounds like a motherboard issue. The keyboard skips would indicate that the keyboard is not always getting the inofrmation to the CPU. If it freezes, it may be overheating.

Touchpad stalls

I've had to deal with this problem on a number of laptops, not just Dells, although i must say that i've seen more Dell laptops having this problem though. The reason is simple, the wires relaying the input devices (keyboard and touch pad) to the motherboard of the laptop were either designed too frail, or the engineers didn't figure that putting them there would cause them to rub ever so slightly against the metal casing and will cause them to break up after a while. So basically when it's not working it's cause the wires and just moved in a way where they are not contacting, and when you hit hard enough, the wires touch and give the contact needed to work. And of course moving and shaking the laptop cause the wires to move ever so slightly also and cause them to start and stop contacting, just like flickering and on/off switch over and over. So if it is still under warranty, send it back fast before it's too late, as Dell has many service points around the world, and you can ship it to them via a courrier like Purolator or UPS just about all around the world also, so even if you did move out of country you can still get them to honor their warranty and would be a shame to have to scrap a laptop just cause the warranty passed out.

Dell touchpad disappeared

Try using your touch pad when your laptop is running on batteries (while power supply is disconnected).
Many of new power supply supplied with dell laptops are faulty and cause touchpad to work erratically/horribly
