SOURCE: lawn mower

i dont understand the pulling the button - do you mean push the primer button - if you mean primer button it sounds like the high speed jet in the carb is dirty and needs service- you can attempt to start and once engine fires have someone continually push primer to keep running it ma clear the blockage - did You check the fuel tank for any water ?

SOURCE: My weed eater 500 series mower is not getting gas.

First possibility: The in-tank filter may be clogged...The fuel line running into the tank ends at a small canister bulb, basically a cage made of screens to filter debris that builds up in every the filter clogs, only manually pumping the fuel with draw enough to feed the engine.

Make a small hook on the end of a piece of wire ( 8" of coat hanger) and reach into the empty tank to gently pull the filter to the fuel port for removal and cleaning.
* Don't smoke! An empty tank is just as explosive, if not more so, as a full one.
** The inner line is a bit short, and will disappear back inside after removing the filter (and it's a pain to get back), so pinch or loose-wrap the wire onto the line to keep it outside until you're ready to replace the filter.

Second possibility: The problem could just as well be a lack of air as fuel...pull the air filter cover and filter, but replace the bolt a few threads to keep it in place.

After cleaning the tank filter, and refilling the tank, add a few drops (about a teaspoon) of gas into the throat and give it a pull or two.
Once it warms up, shut it off so that you can clean and replace the air filter and button it down.

*** Adding a tsp of Marvel Mystery oil to the tank will finish cleaning the lines and ports...I love the stuff; Works better than most, and it's the best deal in fuel system cleaners.

***Don't forget to VOTE for the guys who take an interest in helping!

Starting procedure

Terry: According to

  • Put on a pair of safety glasses. Remove the fuel cap from the Weed Eater and set it aside. Fill the fuel tank with unleaded gasoline that has been mixed with quality 2-stroke oil in a 40:1 ratio. Replace the fuel cap.
  • Move the Weed Eater to a safe place and lay it flat on the ground. Depress the fuel bulb located beneath the carburetor approximately six times to prime the engine. Press it slowly so that fuel has adequate time to traverse the fuel line.
  • Slide the handlebar-mounted engine "On/Stop" switch to the "On" position. Slide the choke lever beneath the fuel tank to the "Full" position.
  • Depress the "Throttle Lock" lever located beside the engine "On/Stop" switch. Keeping the lever depressed, squeeze the throttle trigger. Release the throttle lock. This sequence holds the trigger in the depressed position, which aids in starting the Weed Eater.
  • Roll the Weed Eater so that it is resting on the engine and the trimmer head shield only. This will allow the spinning trimmer head to avoid contact with the ground. Brace the Weed Eater by holding it to the ground with one hand. Using your other hand, pull the starter rope quickly until the engine begins to run. Do not pull the rope more than a dozen times. If it fails to start by then, squeeze the throttle trigger and continue to pull until the engine starts.
  • Allow the Weed Eater to warm up for about 15 seconds, then slide the choke lever to the "Off" position. Let the trimmer run for another minute without touching the throttle lever. After the Weed Eater has warmed up, squeeze the throttle trigger once to disengage the throttle lock. The trimmer is now operational.

There is a tension adjustment on the body.. flip your mower over and you can see it better.. do not over-tighten it though because it needs slack to let the 1-2-3 to change on the fly.
