SOURCE: Microwave display window shows locked!!!!

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

Let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

There may be grease or soot on the control panel causing a lockup, and it may need circuit board cleaning / repair or a new keypad.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: kenmore elite microwave oven displays "Locked" and will not respond

My Kenmore Elite microwave (don't have the model number in front of me) also mysteriously locked its own keypad (we were sitting in an adjacent room, heard a strange beep, and got up to find the LED reading "Locked."). I pressed and held down the Stop/Clear button for ~10 seconds and it returned to normal.

SOURCE: Kenmore Gas Range model #

Hi,

Many models of the GE microwave have sensors that can detect humidity from the foods you are cooking. This allows the microwave to make adjustments to the power levels used to cook your food. If "Sensor Error" appears, you should either press "Clear" to cancel the mode or leave the food in the appliance longer to give the microwave more time to detect the food.

Press "Time Cook" to manually enter the time if you receive an error message when trying to use the "Sensor Reheat" mode of your GE microwave. The error message may be caused by the food item being too large or too small to detect.

these are some other code error that will help you in case of next time.

  1. Step 1 Press "Off/Cancel" (or "Cancel/Off" depending on your model) to clear the error code. Note the code if it reappears.
  2. Step 2 Replace the touchpad if the code displayed is "F0," "F7" or "F10." A function key is stuck or shorted.
  3. Step 3 Replace the touchpad or the clock (ERC) if the code "F1" is displayed. Disconnect the ribbon connector to the touchpad. If no code is displayed after an hour, replace the touchpad. If the code displays again, replace the clock.
  4. Step 4 Replace the oven temperature sensor if "F2," "F3" or "F4" is displayed. "F2" indicates the oven temperature is too hot and the oven temperature sensor is suspect. "F3" or "F4" indicates the oven temperature sensor or shorted or open.
  5. Step 5 Replace the ERC if "F5," F6" or "F8" is displayed. The ERC is the main control unit. "F5," F6" and "F8 are codes that indicate problems in the ERC functions.
  6. Step 6 Inspect the door-lock assembly and circuit if "F9" is displayed. The door must lock when the oven is in use. If the lock mechanism is not functioning or if the detection circuit is malfunctioning, the stove will display "F9."

jQuery('.article ol .image').each(function(i,e){ var $this = jQuery(this); $this.find('img').error(function(){ jQuery(this).remove(); $this.remove(); }); }); NOTE:

"F3" codes mean your oven temperature sensor has failed or shorted out. The only thing you can do is to replace the sensor.

Take care.

SOURCE: Kenmore Microwave Oven door won't shut

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.

Please check the tag in the cooking cavity or elsewhere n the oven and let us know if you need further help.

How do I unlock the key panel

Opening the door while the oven is cooking will greatly shorten the life of the door switches and lead to failure.
Always hit "Stop" first unless the recipe calls for it.
The instructions for the child lock are in the owner's manual.
To set the lock, press Stop/Clear, then hold the "0" pad for more than four seconds. You will hear two beeps and the display will show "LOCKED".

To unlock, hold the "0" pad for more than four seconds. You will hear two beeps and the display will no longer show "LOCKED".

WHEN TRYING TO SELF CLEAN OUR KENMORE ELECTRIC RANGE WE GET THE E1-F5 LIGHT?

The E1 - F5 error code indicates that the oven door lock assembly is not operating. The oven will not begin the self clean cycle unless the oven door is properly locked. This failure is normally caused by a failed door lock assembly. In rare instances, it can be caused by a failed control board or a wiring failure. The normal troubleshooting for this problem is to unplug the range and check the wire harness connections between the control board and the door lock assembly. The first image below shows the access information for the components in this model of range. The second image shows the wiring diagram with the door lock circuit highlighted. If you are able to unplug the range and check the wiring connections, you can likely fix this problem yourself. If the wiring connections are okay, the next step in troubleshooting is to replace the door lock assembly (part W10107820). You can order this part from the Sears PartsDirect website. Replacing this part will likely fix your problem. If you replace the door lock assembly and still have the same problem then the electronic oven control board may also need to be replaced. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Stainless Steel Kenmore Elite 36 in. 2.0 cu. ft. Microhood Combination Model 63763

Generally the F9 code indicates a problem with the door latch (usually upper) or with the control board. You can do a Google search for my text file "doorsw.txt" to help you diagnose and repair door switch trouble. BUT - since it always stops at 53 seconds, that leads me to think you have trouble with the control unit (circuit board / controller assembly). Once you read and digest the info on door switches, please feel free to do an updated post and I'll be happy to help you further. It may be corrupted ROM in the control unit. But let us know what you find out. - online they call me "William E. Miller, AS-EET"
