Canon Pixma ip5200 get Document Failed to Print error. Dell desktop WinXP Home, no errors at the port, cable good, uninstalled the driver, re-oinstalled, powered off the printer, restarted computer, USB in different known working port, still same error. Printer has worked flawlessly previous. No new software, no bugs found. Document goes to the print queue, printer makes the normal pre-printing sounds, then the error. Puzzle for me.

  • drricks Aug 26, 2010

Not sure what you mean by don't open a word file.

  • drricks Aug 26, 2010

Opened a new Word doc, typed a few things, print. Same error - Document Failed to Print. It lists the name of the doc, time, date, etc., plus Open Troubleshooter...

  • drricks Aug 26, 2010

Get the same error attempting to print all docs. Excel, Word, a webpage. They all go to the print queue but no further.

Uninstalled the first USB Root Hub (there are two) and mouse (wireless) and computer froze. Shutdown manually, started again and both Root Hubs are there again and mouse works. How do I uninstall the root hubs without losing mouse function - couldn't go to Task Manager either. Should I really uninstall the Root Hubs?

I am guessing that somehow your printer got switched from being the default printer. try these steps and you should be good to go:

1. Open 'Control Panel' (classic view).
2. Click "Printers and Faxes".
3. Right-click the icon for your Canon printer.
4. Select "Set as Default Printer".

A tick should now appear beside the Canon printer icon.
Thank you,
Lee

It seems you have already tried all the basic troubleshooting measures. Let me suggest one more.
Disconnect the printer, uninstall the drivers including the Canon Softwares. Open the Device Manager and uninstall the "Usb Root Hub" (all usb root hub). Run registry cleaning using a Registry Cleaner... (you can download one from this link). Also run a system cleaning using the application (given link) or you can use the Disk Cleanup wizard. Restart your computer and again reinstall the printer. Don't connect the printer until you are asked to... What i mean is to install the canon software (autorun) and connect the printer only when you are asked to connect.

Do all the process carefully, and you'll be saved.. :-).

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Hi. Please create a simple letter size word document (do not open word file but create a NEW document), type a few words then print. Let me know the result.

Some printing errors are caused by an error/wrong settings on the file that is why I am asking you to do this.

Thanks.

Did you already tried reinstalling the printer driver from Canon web site? because this may need a updated driver to work. So uninstall the printer and reinstall it back using the downloaded printer software from canon web site.

    Did that already.

I am having problems installing canon iP5200 with Windows 7

Did you upgrade the computer from Windows XP to Windows 7? If so, did you uninstall the driver before you did the upgrade? The old driver files may be causing the problem.

To fix, go to this link, and in the search box in the center of the screen type "windows 7" and click on the Search button. Then select the link "ERROR: Cannot communicate with the printer after upgrading to Windows 7". There will be step-by-step directions for resolving your problem.

Its the small circuit board next to the carriage unit

You can get one for about $30 from this company web site.

www.euro-parts.it/download/slowmover_oct-2008.xls

You probably have to contact them directly to get your exact circuit board.

Printer print blue instead of black

I have the same problem with my ip 5200, when printing a document in plain black.. I spoke to canon support and they suggested to save the .doc document as a txt file before printing. It works. Not too sure if this uses any colour ink to produce the black.

You can also set the printer on grayscale. However, the printer uses the colour ink to produce black.... hence printing in black & white becomes rather expensive.

If anyone has drivers to fix this problem please let me know...
