It plays all extentions fine but when playing an avi extention it starts to become very slow or skip

Best thing here to do is download divx www.divx.com this will load a better de compressor co-dec and will allow it to run smooth.

Other causes could be video card memory, System ram, Video card drivers, But try divx.com first let me know.
