You need to establish how much memory is required, more the better.
The minimum hardware requirements for Windows XP Home Edition are:

  • Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
  • At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
  • At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
  • CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
  • Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
  • Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600)or higher resolution
  • Sound card
  • Speakers or headphones

Hi, I have a Pentium II computer with an award 6BC motherboard. I'm trying to make a dual boot hard drive with win98se and winxp os. Have successfully installed win98se on first partition but cannot...

I assume that when XP gives lot a choice of where you want to install it that you are selecting unpartitioned space ( which should be listed after your primary 98 partition) and that there is enough room on that partition for XP.

If that space is already partitioned, try delecting the partition and then tell XP to install in the newly created unpartitioned space. XP should then prompt to format that space after which the install should continue. If it does not, you must be getting some error message indicating what/where the problem is. If you let me know what the error messages are I may be able to provide further help.

DFI CA64-TC motherboard maxed out at 1 GB memory.

Hi,

If you've maxed out memory you've outgrown the board. It would be my suggestion to purchase a newer board that can hold more memory. Most boards today can handle from 4 -8 gb of ram.

Good Luck

PM800-M2 Restarting

reformat means that you have to install an fresh copy of your operating system to the hard drive. if you do have a cd of your windows installer like windows xp, just put it in your cd drive and restart your computer and boot from that cd. be sure to erase the partition that has your corrupt operating system installed ok to replace it with the new xp that your going to install...

that wasn't to hard was it?

Installing new hard drive.

From what it sounds like it is not your motherboard or harddrive. it is the formating of the hard drive. What is the format you are using for your harddrive ? FAT32 or NTFS ? are you Partitioning your drive ? Are you familure with dos commands ?

Continuous restarting with winxp

On computers that contain Windows 98 and Windows XP: ? Windows 98 must be installed on a basic disk on a partition formatted with FAT or FAT32. If Windows 98 or Windows Me is not installed on the system partition, which is almost always the first partition on the disk, the system partition must also be formatted with FAT or FAT32. ? Compressed DriveSpace or DoubleSpace volumes won't be available while you are running Windows XP. It is not necessary to uncompress DriveSpace or DoubleSpace volumes that you will access only with Windows 98. ? Windows XP must be installed last. Otherwise important files needed for starting Windows XP could be overwritten
